What’s the housing market doing near you?

Been keeping my eyes open for a while around here, we are quite rural. Only 2 houses have come up for sale in about 5 years. But have been keeping an eye open at the next neighbouring towns/cities (I just like a nosy when new houses come up)

Seems to be lots of houses coming on to the market for inflated prices?? Like a typical 3 bed with a garden is around 15/20k more than before lockdown. I’m just wondering if we will actually have the predicted crash.

Old area we moved from (Wiltshire) houses have been selling within days of going on the market.

Just wondering if all areas are similar 🤷‍♀️

Just toying with selling and buying at the moment

Yes, same here. Totally unrealistic, I can only imagine that they are expecting to be knocked down hugely and are trying to offset it

And another one sold, they paid 290k about 18 months ago now sold for 310k

Wow - prices in this area are mad at the moment

I’ve noticed a rise in my area. It seems lockdown has encouraged a “ Let’s move to Shropshire “ response.
This is good because I’m selling in Shropshire Grin

The land registry sold prices are now coming through for houses that completed during lockdown and so far prices seem very reasonable without any major drop at all

This is in south east

I think it depends on area tbh, I don't see why houses wouldn't sell at 300k, that's accessible to a wide market. Someone on my road has sold, neighbour said they accepted an offer but didn't tell me how much. I reckon it went for around 700k, which is pretty much what is would have gone for 6 years. They bought for 300k though so not an issue.

Selling like hot cakes for asking price or offers over.
More buyers than sellers though.

@rebel how do you see the sold prices on the land registry so quickly? why does it take so long for them to show on zoopla?

I'm in London & apparently that's not so popular at the moment.

Not much movement at the moment and prices are really high. We are hoping they drop in July as we are in temporary rental

My SIL is an estate agent and she told me that houses are going above asking price in our area (Yorkshire). The ones we've been looking at sell within days of going on the market.
We've been screwed over on our property and lost thousands paying mortgage payments for an empty property during lockdown. I reckon if we put it back on the market we'd have no trouble selling - but we can't afford to and are stuck selling for the agreed reduced price to a pair of arseholes who are dragging it on and on.

We sold ours before lockdown and then the house we were buying pulled out during lockdown. We were worried that once things opened up again the market would be quiet but it's exploded near us.
We've found a new one but from chatting to the agents, there's a lot of houses coming on the market but even more people looking. Seems to be a sellers market at the moment. We're in the East Midlands.

DH works within the property world, I hear him using the phrase Dead Cat Bounce to everyone, I.e. he thinks it’s an upward blip in what is and will be a downward trend. It’s hard to see how the housing market won’t become difficult as a recession is on the way, it just depends how many people actually lose their jobs as to the severity I guess.

We went on the market just as agents were allowed viewings again. The first 3 weeks were quite quiet and slow. The past week it has exploded and we have 6 viewings booked in this week. We have a second viewing tomorrow as well.

We were worried it was priced too high, but the agents kept saying it was just very quiet. I don't know why it has suddenly got busy but I am not complaining!

DailyM has an article saying buyers are going on at a higher price than before lockdown expecting to be asked for a ‘discount’.

@Finfintytint I'm moving to Shropshire! Got the EA coming in today to value mine. To be fair this is a move planned 2 years ago as dh already has a house there. I'm so excited I love it there.

Shropshire is great but unfortunately have to move because of work relocation. Grew up there and returned 30 years later to semi retire but Scotland is calling now!

@Finfintytint It's so beautiful and a bit of a hidden gem, i don't think I'll ever get bored of the place. Still reasonable house prices to live in such a stunning location. Good luck with your move to Scotland Smile

Red hot in the area I'm looking at, nice houses are being sold within a few days of going on Rightmove. Even grotty houses that normally stay on the market for a few months and flying off the shelves.

I hope it's pent up demand fuelled by low interest rates. As a first time buyer I could benefit from house prices dipping a bit

LolaSkoda · 16/06/2020 10:56

East Midlands here. I’ve noticed that before lockdown my Rightmove alerts were pinging me maybe once a day with one or two properties.

Now it’s about four messages a day with an average of 12 new properties a day. Most of them detached four beds around £300k!

ppl should give an indication of area in these posts. Otherwise they are meaningless. I know some do.

East Northamptonshire if that helps!

Otherwise they are meaningless

tbf lots of these posts are meaningless anyway. You see the same old names popping up talking the market up for some strange reason.

Logically how do some of these posters have any idea what all the houses in their area have sold for in the last month or so?

Of course there is pent up demand so will we see a spike but no one knows what will happen in the Autumn. I don't think there will be a huge crash but I'm pretty sure 2020 won't be a yr of record house price growth. people buying should be wary & future proof.
