When do you get a bump?

Hi all
I am 10+4 wit my 1st pregnancy and was wondering when you first start to get a bump? I know everyone is different, I'm convinced I'm getting a bump but my midwife said I wouldn't start getting one til at least 14 weeks.

All my clothes are really tight and i've had to buy some maternity jeans (which are the most comfortable things I've ever worn). Obviously I'm eating more so expect to put on a bit of weight everywhere (which i have) put most of it is all in my belly.

A tubby mummy2b xxx

Hi, congrats on your pregnancy

I started getting my first bump at around 10 weeks I think, but I gained 4.7 stones in weight! all together.

With my second pg, I didn't get much of a bump until around 5 months and gained very little pg weight.

As you say, every woman and every pregnancy is different, so you'll have to wait and see and don't be too keen on getting one, they are uncomfortable often and finding nice mat clothes that don't cost the earth is not easy. Good luck with everything!

i was in maternity clothes from about 10 weeks too, both pregnancies. Your stomach will be filling out so if you normally wear fitted clothes they will get tight. Get something comfy sooner than later. H&M do cheap stuff and while Primark don't do maternity you can get some longer, larger sized tops to keep you covered while you are growing. I used to love leggings with a wrap dress over the top for work.

Congratulations and sod the midwife. Everyone is different right? Just don't tell her you're getting a bump if "her book" says 14 weeks! Oh... and from what I've read around here - get used to being told what is NORMAL compared to what your body is doing! Time to develop a thick skin!

I didn't get a bump with DS or with this pregnancy till well past 20 weeks.

I have 5 weeks to go with this pregnancy, and most people think I look 4-5 months pregnant.

Everyone is different and everyone has an opinion on it.

In another 30 weeks you will be fed up to the back teeth of the comments!!!

I am 24 weeks today and long for a nice neat 'football' bump. However, I just look a bit chunkier. On the plus side, still in all my old clothes... and can still sleep on my front moreoreless!

Everyone will get a bump at some point... maybe even only a week before baby is born?!!

8 weeks. But I had a lot of water retention.

I didn't get a bump until well past 20 weeks with DD.

But am now 17 weeks with second one and feel huge - although apparently that's often the way. In mat wear, can no longer lie on front and basically look pg. Think bump must have started to appear around 13 week stage. Although definitely accentuated by the layer of blubber remaining from first time round!

I was out of my normal jeans by 9 weeks with this pg. However, I'm only just getting a bump now at 17 weeks. Before that it was water and fat .

Mine arrived at 17 weeks. None when I went to bed, woke up the next morning with a bump. Weird.

20 weeks for me, but its less of the neat football bump I would like and more of the 'my body is now a treetrunk' effect....hmmmm! no clothes fit that were even slightly fitted before. everyones different

First pg - about 16 weeks iirc. Had bad ms and actually lost weight before that.

Second pg - about 8 weeks! Gawd it was a mare, trying to keep that hidden from people, as I didn't want to tell until after the 12 week scan.

No bump until 16 weeks (seemed to come up overnight) with 3rd pg, but had lost weight during the previous 8 weeks with MS. Having said that, I was wearing maternity jeans from 10 weeks too so waist had started to go before that.

I must have been about 6 1/2 - 7 months before I looked anything but chunkier to people who didn't know. Even now, with only a month left, if I'm in certain tops/sitting down/lying down - I don't look pregnant at all. Baby is measuring 1.5 weeks ahead also! Sometimes I'm envious of women with these huge, perfectly round bumps, but then I'm grateful that I can still walk without waddling

thanks everyone for all your comments, i think i've come to the conclusion that it is water retention and fat!!! I've always worn really tight clothes and if i've ever but even a little bit of weight on i have to change the size of clothes i wear. Oh well looks like mat clothes from here on in at 11+1.

1st pregnancy I never really had a bump just looked even bigger than usual (was a size 18 when I got pg)

This time I am having twins and have had a very definate "football bump" since about 16 weeks (was also a size 12-14 when I got pg) I am 31 weeks tomorrow and people think im gonna drop anyday lol

I know that having a bump makes it a bit more real but enjoy being without it for now as you will be well and truly fed up with it by the end lol

Am now 14+3 in first pregnancy. My little bump arrived overnight at 12+4. Am in a bit of an inbetween stage where my normal jeans are a bit tight but my bump isn't big enough to keep up my nice stretchy maternity ones so I keep on having to hoik them up.

I still just about fit into my other clothes.

I had a bump from 10 weeks. It wasn't fat or water retention, it was a proper bump. My explanation is that I have very long legs and a very short torso, so I just start showing very early. That's my explanation, anyway....
