So my belly has been growing absolutely fine until today when I had a different midwife and she's measured it smaller. I've been referred for another growth scan within the week. 39 weeks and worried :(

Don't trust the tape measure! Try not to worry babies don't come in standard sizes they will check at the scan.

I measured small all the way through and went for 3 extra growth scans, which also came up quite small. I was told to prepare for a small baby at 6lb ish. He was 7lb 12oz - so perfectly 'normal' must have just been well tucked up.

Try not to worry.

At 39 weeks the only thing I would worry about is reduced movement and carrying your notes!

I measured small for all three of mine, the worry is horrible soFlowers

Different MW, probably measured from a different point. I am small anyway and was sent for a growth scan late in pregnancy. I was worried as I think it's only natural to be really, but the scan said everything was fine and he came out a chunky 8lb 7oz. I know it's hard but try not to worry, and make the most of seeing your baby again on the screen :)

i measured small all the way through too, and I did have a small baby but all was fine. Growth scans are very normal, I'm having 3 with my latest pregnancy. With DS1 i had a growth scan at 40 weeks, I ended up being induced as his growth had tailed off, and that was fine (mostly).

As you have only being measured by the tape so far, don't worry. The scan will give you are a proper picture and if you need to be induced then you are full term so it will be fine.

Sometimes head engages or baby changes position size of the bump also changes a lot.

I was referred for a growth scan with dd1 as bump hadn't changed in a few weeks. Scan showed all was fine and she was 8lb14 at birth.

Don't panic. My bump measured small every time during this pregnancy and at the growth scans (all three of them) I kept being assured that the baby was "bigger than average".

Fundal height measurements are very unreliable and many medical professionals are steering away from using them now.

I know you won't feel reassured until you've had the scan, but try not to worry too much in the meantime. Flowers

This happened to me at 38 weeks, my bump was measuring the same as it had done at 36 so I was referred for a scan. The scan came big with the same measurements as the tape so advised that I was induced (I was 39 weeks by this point)

I was induced and turned out she was 7lb4oz... not the 6lb6 that both measurements had suggested!

Try not to worry too much, I know it's really hard but the measurements change so much depending on how the baby is lying etc

Both of my bump measured fine til the 2 month then measured small. Even the growth scan scared the shit out of me saying baby would be 4lb max. My dd was a healthy 6.13 try not to stress too much x

If it helps, heres mine. The x are the bump measurements, the o are the scan measurements.

They're not worried, it seems my stomach muscles aren't great so makes my bump big!

I'm 37wks now and on weekly scans.

I think that as they haven't rushed you in they are just doing careful.

My friend had this scare. -at the scan, all went well, and she was told her uterus couldn't stretch any bigger lol!! I'm sure it's fine, as pp said reduced movements then Ring the midwife or hospital - did midwife check baby heart beat?

I always measured small. Practically stopped growing after 31 weeks and was sent for fortnightly growth scans at twice weekly monitoring. Each scan showed my baby was growing but they were still twitched. I was told to expect a small baby and induced on my due date. She weighed 7lbs and is healthy and happy. People carry their babies differently. Don't panic!

I measured small on some scans and large on others, ditto the measurements. One day a scan estimated the baby was 4lb and literally the next day it was 6lb! I don't think they're especially accurate so I wouldn't worry...

This just happened to me at 34 weeks and was sent for a scan and my baby is fine and has dropped. Everyone keeps saying I suddenly look tiny and low

Report
thecatsarecrazy · 29/11/2016 20:27

I wouldn't worry. I was sent for a growth scan last week because there had been no growth in 3 weeks going by the tape measure. I was told actually baby is on the large side and will probably be bigger than my last.

I measured small with both my babies.
Both fundal height charts in my notes were on a downward curve, had growth scans which showed my babies were small but in proportion, placenta was functioning well and fluid levels were fine.
DD born at 38 weeks weighing 5lb 15oz, DS born at 37 weeks weighing 6lb 9oz.
