Recycling Clothes Company (RCC LTD)

Charity-style plastic bag dropped through our letterbox today asking for unwanted clothes etc for developing countries, quoting a "Registered no. " (no mention of Charity). I'm suspicious as when I googled the company its registered address is in a residential area, RCC Ltd is associated with other companies and the Charity Commission doesn't locate that number or name. Scam or bona fide ?

I guess it may be the same where you live, but we get so many charity bags that it's quite easy to choose the ones which are proper charities which we've heard of (unless you have a non-stop stream of clothes to get rid of!). I just put the others in with my recycling.

there's a big market in second hand clothes and I suspect that is where these are going. give them to a charity you know.

My recent bag has a charity number (1082929) which has posted accounts showing an income of only a few thousand £.
The web site (www.childrenshearts.org.uk)has lofty aims but only seems to have supported a few operations.
All it's focus ( board members, reported successes) are east european based. Clearly clothing is being resold in in the east european area and profits recycled there. Unless you have an altrusitic desire to help these areas no matter, what then stick to UK charities

Further to my last post there is no company called RCC registered at Companies House so this is probably a sole trader that does not have to produce public accounts. I suspect that clothes are sold and the costs of staff inflated to leave only a small residue of which 60% are 'donated' to the charity.
Pick a UK charity
