How did you first hear about Mumsnet? I think it is addictive ...

I started posting one or two messages and am now quite addicted. Not quite sure how it happened. Just wondered how everyone else came to be in the same position as me!

Maybe you are all discussion board addicts and post on lots of different forums !?

Must drag myself away now and see if I get any posts tomorrow. I think that is what is so addictive - each time wondering whether anyone will take the time to respond.

I googled mum websites and found mn

spookyserenity Mon 03-Oct-05 22:35:57

There was an article in Practical Parenting back in the summer of 2003 about Mums setting up businesses from home, and Justine and Carrie were two of the people featured. I was intrigued by the interview and checked the website out, and have been unable to get away since

I was researching Group Strep B as I was pg for the second time and as a carrier wanted to know the implications, there was a link to MN on the Group Strep B Support Group. That was over three and a half years ago and I have all but given up TV watching in the evening in favour of MN.

hunkerpumpkin Mon 03-Oct-05 22:43:03

LOL! Dinny's my lovely colleague who asked if I knew about MN when I was pg with DS. I forgot all about it (well, logged on once, thought it was very "text-rich" and full of women chatting about agas and cleaners and I went elsewhere.

Then when DS was about six months old, I remembered it again, logged on...and, do you know what? I rather liked it Haven't bloody left since! Well, OK, have once. But for A Very Good Reason

I can't even remember how I found it! It feels like I've been here forever now!

lucykate Mon 03-Oct-05 22:53:41

i found out about it after watching mums the word on telly. i'm on mat leave and needed to watch other mums who were also tired to ease my pain!. went a bit mad when i first joined, even read the whole 'stephone' thread, which took days!!, but now try and restrict visits

buffytheharpsichordcarrier Tue 04-Oct-05 07:45:50

I was googling some cbeebies question and found one of those threads where half the people say "I fancy Justin!" and the other half go and the next thing I knew I was reading some loooong thread full of aggro about extended bf (Daily Mail report about the breastapo feeding until 4 etc etc, lots of talk about child abuse, ew! gross - the usual) and lurked there for a while and then I woke up and it was eight weeks later and I can't seen to leave.
Tbh if I had thought for one second I would post this much I would have thought a bit more carefully about my posting name and chosen something less openly ridiculous.

[hunker, did you flounce then?]

Carmenere Tue 04-Oct-05 08:00:37

I bought the mum's on pregnancy book(along with loads others) and thought it was easily the best. And that led me here and now this is where I live

HondaDream Tue 04-Oct-05 08:13:11

I read an article inthe Sunday Times about it.

LadyFioOfTipton Tue 04-Oct-05 08:17:27

i used to use a special needs board elsewhere and someone mentioned mumsnet had got a new SN board, think that was about 3 years ago

LadyFioOfTipton Tue 04-Oct-05 08:18:27

and i only used to use the special needs board and hardly ventured elsewhere on the site until i became buddies with fairyfly through one of her threads about her son and then she led me astray

flamebat Tue 04-Oct-05 08:55:05

My friend saw quotes from MN in readers digest and decided to look it up - she then showed me and I joined (originally I was just gonna write reviews of stuff). She ended up that she managed to pull herself away, and me here is hooked still

Frizbe Tue 04-Oct-05 09:24:16

read mums on pregnancy every week in Borders, eventually had to buy it, it was my comfort read throughout pregnancy, eventually turned up to check out my choice of pushchair. that was 20 months ago.

bonkerz Tue 04-Oct-05 10:28:44

I found mumsnet in July last year after my first miscarriage. I was googling miscarriage and was directedto mumsnet. I suppose i am addicted! I have made some great friends and have recieved aamazing support!

saadia Tue 04-Oct-05 10:37:02

I used to watch "Mums the Word" and they mention it in the intro so thought I'd check it out and was amazed by how much useful info and advice is in the archives. Then I started posting and was hooked. I just think it's so fab to have access to other peoples' wisdom on so many subjects.

WigWamBam Tue 04-Oct-05 10:50:13

I can't remember how I first heard of Mumsnet, it must have been about 4 years ago shortly after dd was born. I poked my head in, saw all of these posters who seemed very tight-knit, all rattling on in shorthand, not talking about babies very much at all, and using all of these confusing abbreviations and I thought, noooooooo! Not for me!

Then I got broadband almost exactly a year ago and a mention in some magazine somewhere reminded me about the site so I popped back in again for 5 minutes. And now I can't find the exit and I'm stuck here
