This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who have tested Carphone Warehouse’s new Energy Saver service, either by going in store or via their app (Energy Saver on iOS and Google Play).

Here’s what Carphone Warehouse has to say: “We’re famous for getting people a better mobile deal. And now we’re using our expertise to help you save on your energy bill. Switching your energy supplier may seem like a lot of work – but don’t worry, that’s what we’re here for.”

I would if it were just a website rather than an app. I hate having lots of apps cluttering my phone and taking up room when something like this you will only use once every couple of years. It's a great tool but I would prefer it as a web link rather than an app.

Very easy!!! Even someone who isn't great with computers could use it and it's so fast and gives you many options to choose from too. Tells you not just how much you can save but also estimate of yearly bill, if a contract, any exit fees etc. Great app!

Fab app. In just few minutes filling a short form you know what is the cheapest elect/ gas supplier for your usage . I'm definitely changing my supplier ( after asking the landlord)

1. How much did you/ could you save? Around £130 per year but with a company that didn't look to have good customer satisfaction so decided not to change.

Yes relatively, it was a bit confusing trying to find my current tariff listed under provider, the exact one wasn't there so the figures were slightly out. The app was fine to use although there is significant advertising so I wouldn't use it as first choice over an impartial service.

1. Would you recommend Carphone Warehouse Energy Saver to a friend or family member? No I don't think so in this instance, I have used other services in the past that have been better and not needed to download app or visit a store.

I would - however it didn’t have my current provider so used my previous provider to compare prices! Means it’s slightly limited to each individual

2. Nothing - we are apparently on a good deal! The other deals came out as £50+ more expensive.
   
3. App is very simple to use - very straightforward to use and took less than 5 mins to give a result. All you need is your latest bill. It was useful to give you the option of putting either spend or number of kWh and whether it was monthly/annual etc.
   
4. Yes, based on the ease of using the app. I did find it slightly annoying, however, to receive a marketing email afterwards thanking me for downloading the app and saying I would receive monthly updates about the best fuel deals. I can't imagine many folk in their right mind would want to reassess their energy supplier on a monthly basis rather than annually. Also, would be good to have this as an opt-in rather than opt-out.

It said I could save £1,105 a year BUT that was with the estimation of using the same amount of energy throughout the rest of the year. We've just had one of the coldest winters in years and my bill was for the last 4 months. I pay the bills as they come up because I dislike direct debits. I feel they should take the difference in bills over the year into account.

I would but only after making them aware of the possible issue with the app overestimating supply.

The cheapest deal would cost me an extra £5 per year. I even looked at getting gas and electricity separately but that still cost an extra £3.

No, purely because there seemed no easy way of looking at just green tariffs. If this feature was added then yes I would.

I would if it had a specific website, as a lot of my family prefer using a webpage rather than an app, but yes I would as I would say 50% would use the app and the other 50% I could do it for them, ive just discussed this with my mum who is keen to get a good deal so will be going on later to have a look, so thank you.

£600! (this is based on our last year's usage and there are particular reasons why it was disproportionately high, but even so it suggests we really need to switch asap).

How easy did you find the service to use?
Very easy - it took seconds to do. Our previous year's usage was clearly stated on our most recent bill and this, together with the name of our current provider and tariff was all the information I needed to use the service. All the info you'd need was very clearly displayed, and if you wanted to switch immediately you could click to do so or there was the option to speak to someone. However I was directed to the app and I'm not sure I'd have gone looking for an app for this particular service unless prompted - I'm more familiar with searching for comparisons on websites.

I would but the only thing I found was that the company that gave me the cheapest deal they had very little information on which meant I wouldnt necessarily switch. IN the end there were actually very little amount of companies who gave me a lower rate. I think it is simple to use so would recommend in this respect but would urge people to investigate the companies before automatically opting for the cheapes

I use very little throughout the year but have the heating on winter, my most recent reading doesn't give an accurate reflection of my usual use. The system didn't seem to allow for that and this skewed the yearly result price I think.
