Great big effing boil on my neck! Help!

I've NEVER had a boil, ever, and now, 4 days after I go from long hair to a short bob, I've got something that looks like another nipple. It HURTS! I've put metanium on it and it's coming up to a point but there's no head on it. I don't feel too well either but that might be unrelated.

What should I do?! Help!

Me too. In fact if it was on anyone else's neck I'd be rocking backwards and forwards, rhythmically rubbing my thighs and chanting "Squuueeeeze" but it's very sore and refusing to come to a head. A point, but not a head. I swear it's like a nipple. Off to google poultices. Will report back later.

soap and sugar is a good one, or bread soaked in warm water. I use magnesium sulphate paste on my worst ones (I have hidrenitis superativa, don't google if you're about to eat!) stop trying to squeeze it for now as it'll only get more sore. Get a poultice on it, and leave it over night. It'll either come to a head and be drainable or just go down

Well my puss-perv mum put some germolene on it and it's grown TWO green heads! I've had another good go at it, both through kitchen paper, and then (screaming) with my bare hands. Nada.

I've taken loads of photos - it's on the back of my neck and so I've been using the camera on my phone to see it, but I don't know how you upload from there! If someone who knows how to upload, sends me their mobile number via pm I'll send a pic and then you cam add it to this thread.

I don't feel very well and am now self medicating with white wine.

Just to add, thankyou for your poultice recommendations but for the first time in ages we've got a babysitter tonight and are going out and I can't find a way to attach the poultice without a bandage!

Could you use one of those big plasters and put the poultice-stuff over the absorbent bit?

Ok, make a nick in the top of it with a veg knife. Then get an empty beer bottle and run the neck of the bottle under a hot tap for a few minutes till the glass is really warm. Apply the top of the empty bottle over the boil. It makes a vacuum and the boil will explode into the bottle. Then stick savlon all over it.

Not sure it's recommended but it worked for me.

Am considering the big plaster. The warm beer bottle sounds FANTASTIC to do on someone else but tricky to do myself. Will save the technique for DHs ingrowing arse hairs.

Poultice it and DO NOT attempt to squeeze it any more until the heads (!!) are at their ripest....you need to make sure it's all coming to the surface properly otherwise premature squeezing will just push it back down

Also, make up some hot saline and keep applying it with a (old) flannel....hot as you can stand it - that will draw it out nicely and have the bonus of being antiseptic too

Well, overnight it has spread to a saucer-size area of inflammation, so
I'm now sitting up in bed, feeling sorry for myself and nursing a saline hot compress. A bit more wee came out but that's it. Ive put all the pressure on it that I can, including with my mum standing behind me shouting "go oooonnnnn" like she's at a rugby match.

The real, real cruelty is that I can't SEE the bugger. If it was on my knee for example, at least I'd get the pleasure of watching it swell.

More updates later.

I long for DH to get a boil. I could spend all day squeezing spots, more than once we have been lying in bed and he has woken up to the feel of my fingernails on his back
