I love Samir for a boy smile

Thinking of my favourite Arabic names which would work in an English speaking country, I like:

Girls
Naima
Rima
Aliyah
Nura/Noura
Amal

Boys
Rayan
Aziz (short for Abdulaziz)
Mehdi

I know a Libyan girl called Imberekha and I absolutely love that name! But it's a bit of a mouthful.

Girls - Saira, Sehra, Hana, Henna, Aysha, Aisha, Alisha.

Boys - Aadam, Rohan, Ezaz, Esah, Isham, Ali.

I work in a multi cultural school and these are some of the names of students. Quite often the names are European sounding but spelled differently eg Sehra or Aadam, possible compromise?

How about biblical names that would work in both cultures?

Joseph (Yusuf)
Elias (Ilyas)
Abraham

Etc etc

I love Samy. If you are Welsh there are also Idris and Morgan for boys. Also Adam.

Girls names are Lina, Lara, Mai, Sara. There are lots more but I am very forgetful.

We have a girl called Yasmina and a boy called Nour. They are both Arabic names but easy to pronounce in English. They aren't muslim names per se, they are also used by Christians here.

I would not use Aaliyah, Ali, Naima etc as they have the letter 'ain in them which does not exist in English so pronunciation is tricky. I have never heard of anyone called Shakira except the famous one. smile

Thanks everyone who replied! Quite a few to choose from.
We have already have a zakarya that fits nicely in our multicultural family.
Though my mum calls him zak.
So that could be added to the list if anyone is looking for a suitable name.
