One more day and my first 'proper' week of lectures is done. My Brain feels like it has been fried! Anybody else just started studying again after some time 'away'. How are you finding it?

Bloody hard! Loving parts, but some bits are incomprehensible! I'm having to put some hard graft in to keep up with my psychology biology module, as its all completely new to me, but others are flowing along nicely!

I'm worn out each night, but really enjoying it too.

Withgasoliiiiine · 01/10/2021 01:46

Hi! Yes I have full time. Was doing a masters just before around fulltime work. 2 weeks overlap getting my dissertation done so I've just caught up on a backlog of lectures. Loving it! I'm much less knowledgeable about the subject than most on the course and really feel that at times but it's such a refreshing change and exciting new start.

beefcurry · 01/10/2021 07:42

Yep me! 42 fulltime undergrad and mum to 4. My head is in a spin!

OrlandointheWilderness · 01/10/2021 07:49

Starting a nursing degree Monday! Very scary stuff 😂! What is everyone else studying?

I'm a second year nursing student- you will love it!!
FreddyMercurysCat · 01/10/2021 07:58

Starting the social work undergrad on Monday - not sure what to expect really!

OrlandointheWilderness · 01/10/2021 08:58

Ah hello @80sPadme! Are you pleased you chose it? Im slightly terrified I'm going to be the worlds worst nurse 😂!

BillStickersIsInnocent · 01/10/2021 12:18

Yep, just about to start my final lecture of the week. It’s full on and I feel overwhelmed at points but I think (hope?) that’s normal for this stage. Definitely entering the conscious incompetence phase…

MeredithMae · 01/10/2021 18:11

I start my full time Masters on Monday! Feel terrified and out of my depth, although I loved my undergrad (graduated 8 years ago). Hoping my study skills/work ethic will come back to me...

Best of luck to everyone!

Yes very pleased, it's a busy course but I'm really enjoying it

First year student Midwife, 37 and single parent to a 3 year old. I’m 3 weeks in and LOVING IT!

Usernamqwerty · 03/10/2021 22:23

First year! Sorry! Occupational Therapy student, 38 with a 3 year old and a 5 year old.

Junepassing · 05/10/2021 21:20

Hi sorry to highjack this thread. I'm hoping to apply for uni next year, I'll be 32. For those of you doing health professional courses how are you finding the work load? Is there lots of contact time at uni or more of a blend of lectures/self study time? Thanks!

BillStickersIsInnocent · 06/10/2021 06:48

Hi @Junepassing. I’m doing Occupational Therapy and only 3 weeks in but finding the workload akin to a full time job. And a tough one - I was expecting this but at least with a job there’s something you feel competent in whereas at the moment pretty much everything is new.

We have 4 days a week full contact 9-4. Fourth day is a study day. Plus reading/revision and set tasks in the evenings/weekends.

I’m enjoying it but feeling quite overwhelmed at times.

I'm a 3rd year speech and language therapy student. First year our timetables were horrendous - pretty much 9-5 (with chunks of trapped time) three days a week and another full day of placement - travel back to campus - tutorial to support placement.

Second year was Covid but the sheer amount of stuff to be learned that year was bloody hard going. Placement one day a week and stuff timetabled every other day - plus running to stay still with recorded lectures.

Third year timetable isn't massively overloaded to be honest - one of our staff has gone through and sorted out the massive lunacy like coming in for a 9am then nothing till 4pm and they've tried to block our days - we're 3 days a week (generally 9 till about 3) until Christmas when we go full on placement mode for the next term - obviously with dissertations running alongside this. Nowhere near as much stuff to learn - more understanding different areas of work as an overview this year.

zobalina77 · 07/10/2021 18:03

I'm a first year student nurse. Am feeling slightly overwhelmed as I've not done any studying for 10 years and wish I'd done an access to nursing course (though I had enough qualifications without it) as I feel a bit behind in knowledge. Sure I'll catch up though.

ChampooPapi · 11/10/2021 20:23

@OrlandointheWilderness and @zobalina77 hi I'm a first year adult nurse, I'm 34 and have 4 children. Finding it very full on and demanding, but I'm loving it so far. Beats anything else I've ever done! Just got our first assignment , how are you both getting on ?

Gettingthereslowly2020 · 11/10/2021 20:28

I've just started an MSc part time, I love it! I'm so glad I pushed myself to do this. I work full time and volunteer as well so I've got a lot on but it's so worth it.

zobalina77 · 11/10/2021 21:26

@ChampooPapi I'm finding it really interesting so far and got the briefs for first 2 assignments and have A&P exam next month. We are only in uni once a fortnight with the rest being online so I'm finding it difficult in that regard, but in a WhatsApp group with some other students so we can keep in touch that way.

OrlandointheWilderness · 11/10/2021 22:27

@ChampooPapi we're just heading into our first proper week after welcome week. It's overwhelming at the min, the amount of stuff they are throwing at us is mad!

EdmontinaTiresofNameFlipping · 27/10/2021 09:07

Is it half term yet?

How are you all getting on?

BillStickersIsInnocent · 28/10/2021 21:44

I’m tired and overwhelmed. Really enjoying it though. No half term break for us, we keep going until Christmas.

Hairyfairy01 · 30/10/2021 21:34

It has just been reading week for me, but had to work quite a few hours in my normal job as still awaiting bursary, plus the kids off for half term has meant I haven't done much Uni work.

(Name change.)

Anyone care to share their experience of their first term?

MeredithMae · 09/12/2021 19:40

Well my experience has been that it FRICKING ZOOMED PAST. I was all relaxed and adapting to uni life then boom it was half term and then OH deadlines looming. Now is the mad race to the finish line as both assignments for this semester due soon, and I, have wrote around 1000 words. Just 9000 to go!
