I've kinda met someone I like, he's single - I'm single (nearly 2yrs) we both have kids, we both like each other, he's asked me out, I've kinda not really responded, and now we're in limbo, I want to ask for his number but am slightly scared/nervous/unsure of how to ask, where to begin?

He's currently working two streets away and I pass him most days, stop for a chat etc, I just don't know how to further things ...?

Ah glad I'm not alone!

Ok, so how do I even ask for his number? My friend says she'll ask but is that not a tad teenager-y

if you fancy a night out with him...just jokingly say...can i take you up on your offer of a evening out,no strings attached ....and take it from there. Go for it...he can only say yes or no....what have you got to loose.... If not, send him to me....

He doesn't drink, it was more him saying "when you gonna invite me round for dinner" that I ignored if only he'd ask again I'm fine by text, face-2-face, but asking for his number is gonna be the toughy lol!

just cos he doesnt drink, doesnt mean he cant take you out for a drink...he can always have a soft drink

is it too rude to ask which age bracket you are in...how old are the DC's

you should say "so im free this firdaay.... fancing coming over and sampling my cooking?"
he will say yes.... then you say "stick your number in my phone and I can txt you the details later on"

voila... you have his number!

Be very very brave.... just ask him!! He's obviously interested!

he's obviously interested.... why dont you just ask him when your going for this dinner

Report
jamestkirk · 05/01/2010 17:05

i agree with spooky - tho not sure when firdaay is

he's already asked you out and maybe wont want to seem a pest now til you answer - so next time you see him tell him when youre free and invite him round. he should offer to swap numbers - if not just tell him to - and rather you than me, i hate cooking, tho have also been single for a couple of years so if you dont hit it off you can invite me

we could both go and behave really badly, get kicked out and slope off to mcdonalds

me ...behave badly....unheard of
we could start a country wide mumsnet cookathon...claires first ,then yours, mine next....come dine with me....mumsnet style

actually,it would be a brilliant way of making new friends...hope you can cook

Hi Claire grab the bull by the horn and just say so when did you say you were free to take me out otherwise someone else might snap him it happened to me everything happens to me i did the same was abit shy in asking to cut a long story short he went out fot a lads night out and met someone lovely i missed the boat so on what have you got to loose remember men are worse that women at asking someone out

oddly thats the scene i had in mind last night - tho i can't imagine my culinary skills attracting many people from around the country - a short walk maybe, but thats about all

trouble is i find cooking so dull - having been a sp for about 15 years - i really am sick of cooking - and what is so wrong with having rice and broccoli with lasagne? can i cheat and host mine in the local pub?

ditto, ive been on my own exactly 15 years too...but i love cooking most of the time, but have done a bit too much of it over xmas.Am rebelling this week,we are home made soups to keep the costs down after the big xmas spend!!!!!!!!! But and big but, would love an occasional meal out.But on sp budget,it doesnt happen too often. How old are your DCs jamest?

I too get sick off cooking, sometimes and then I have a takeaway rebellion for a few days, whilst i simmer down.Mostly my boys really appreciate my cooking and i love their remarks when i have been baking or making stews...it makes it worthwhile.

guess that means you wont be inviting us all round then...erm, i mean, thats a pity

and i think my kids could tell i was ready for a night off - got in from work and they announced that we were off out for tea - and you cant resist half price pizza hut

they arent exactly kids now tho - 2 dds, 22 and 20, both at uni. and a ds, 18 and at college. has been good fun over the years tho - doesnt 15 years fly by? but theyve kept me reasonably sane, wouldnt have missed it for anything

Report
alypaly · 08/01/2010 01:03

yours are nearly the same as mine 22 and 17...15years has flown....so have all the decent men.....have you found anyone james or just browsing

Report
alypaly · 08/01/2010 01:05

soory it didnt work out claire....but a tea totaller can be a bit boring.....sometimes they never think of going out for an evening...hence him suggesting you cook. was he alot older.

lol at just browsing ... what a cheek!

have been single most of the time tho had a couple of decent gf's over the years - was even engaged for a while - tho been single since then and stopped looking altogether now after a dodgy encounter or two - why does being a single parent attract the weirdo's - is the same for blokes!

meanwhile its a snowday - and i felt like a day off anyway - my days are spent outdoors and as much as i enjoy the snow its getting a bit tedious.

hope youre having a good day too

why was that cheeky{....browsing is the best way til you are certain...or so i was lead to believe.(consults handbook and men)

were you married to DC's dad or just bf/gf?

I was with my DC's dad for 8 years and then he went off with his ex fiancee when i was pregnant. Have got a male friend at the mo ,but hes not the one. We are just really good platonic friends.Miss having female company tho as its a different dynamic.
All my female friends disappeared as soon as we split...it was like i was athreat as a single mum. They just disappeared
into the woodwork and have never reappeared

congratulations

that made me ...i was married many years ago to dc's mum...keep it to yourself, i'm a fella
