Cd 89 - going out of my mind!

hi all,

I'm currently on cd 89 after coming off the pill and not a sign of AF at all!

I've been to the doctors and having blood tests on Tuesday so hopefully that will reveal something - or hopefully it won't and its just a matter of waiting?? I don't know what I'm hoping for really!

I never thought I'd be so desperate the pain and discomfort of a period!!

Does anybody know what happens once blood tests come back? Is there medication that can be used initially?

Thanks X

Your GP should be able to give you norethisterone or provera to induce a bleed - good luck! Xx

It depends on why you're not having a period. I know 3 months feels like forever, but actually it is quite common to take that long or longer for AF to return after coming off the pill, so it might just be a question of time.

If it is something else, the most likely options are PCOS or hypothalamic amenorrhea (or in my case, a lovely hybrid of the two). They have different treatment options which might bring your period back naturally. If not, as Banana says, the two drugs above should induce a bleed (ie shedding your womb lining), but it will just be that, it won't be a period. Norethisterone is harsher than provera, so IME they often give provera first. If that doesn't work, then norethisterone.

Thanks both - sorry to sound really thick robber bride but with the medication is that just to have a bleed in the hope that I will kick start periods or is it just to have one bleed?

They'll just kick start a bleed

They won't so anything about your not having periods

But blood tests should be done on day 3 of your cycle so they will enable you to start a new cycle and have the relevant bloods done to start to ascertain what might be going on with your cycle

Day 3 bloods should include : FSH, LH, oestrodial, prolactin, thyroid function, testosterone, SHBG

You should also have day 21 bloods to confirm if you're ovulating or not

See your GP and ask about inducing a bleed to have the bloods done. Depending on what they say they may recommend a pelvic ultrasound

My Dr told me to sod off when I had no periods 3 months after coming off the pill

Only ran tests when I hadn't had a period for 6+ months

So they might tell you to go away!

But it's reasonable to ask for provera as you're supposed to induce a bleed every three months to avoid the womb lining getting too overgrown. Basically flush you out every few months if you're not having natural periods!
