...for foetuses with Downs Syndrome and other disabilities. Can't believe it. I hope that any Mumsnetters living in Kent can get out and vote for someone else! Link is to Gravesend Reporter.

what a delightful combination of disablism and misogyny

Also some major UKIP donor today claimed that there is no such thing as rape within marriage., I've never been moved to start a thread here before, but bloody hell, I'm terrified that people are seriously considering voting for them.

In fairness that particular man is no longer standing for UKIP after his 2012 comments.

Mind you, he has plenty of existing UKIP colleagues carrying on the good work Hmm

Didn't they have something in their manifesto about locking kids with disabilities like Down's away in institutions?

SingSongSlummy · 01/05/2014 20:44

Nenny it wouldn't surprise me!

Dreadful, but 94% of women who find out they are carrying a child with Down's syndrome will terminate - so do they all agree with him?

Report
AnyFucker · 01/05/2014 20:46

I believe UKIP wish to cut maternity provision too

For God's sake, no one vote for them in any constituency

GeordieMama · 01/05/2014 20:51

Yes Nenny they did Angry

LoveSardines · 01/05/2014 20:52

Wips I suspect that the vast vast vast majority of women who decide to terminate when they discover that they are carrying a child with (a high risk of) Down's Syndrome, do not agree that all women who are pregnant with a high risk of Down's Syndrome should be forced to undergo terminations.

Do you think they are likely to believe that? I am not sure what you are getting at with that post.

LoveSardines · 01/05/2014 20:52

I think you would be hard pressed to find many women in the UK who would be in favour of forced abortion TBH.

Forced birth, you might have more luck with Smile

For goodness sake, as if UKIP couldn't be any more repulsive...

I am disgusted that anyone would vote for them.

Report
SingSongSlummy · 01/05/2014 20:54

Erm wips I imagine that the 94% will have been extremely grateful to have had the choice either way.

He is saying children with Down's syndrome are unacceptable and not wanted in society. A burden. Why do you think women terminate? They don't want a child "like that". Yes they had a choice but they still ultimately don't want a child with Downs.

Report
AnyFucker · 01/05/2014 21:00

What about the significant minority that don't terminate ? Should they be force to ? Your point is not relevant.

Report
LoveSardines · 01/05/2014 21:02

And? That does not mean they want to force the other 6% to terminate against their wishes.

What a bizarre suggestion.
