Sainsbury's online grocery shopping

Does anyone use it? We currently use Ocado but today I was randomly in Sainsbury's and noticed their own brand mozzarella is nearly 50p cheaper than Ocado.

I was thinking of trying it to save money but I'm worried that if it's store based rather than a central hub it will be a false economy, I used Tesco years ago and it was crap, full of substitutions.

Yes! I made the switch from Ocado and haven't looked back.

I dont shop on line often but its sainsburys I use, rarely get a substitute.

We've recently started using Sainsburys online. I don't know if our shopping comes from a hub or the local store, which is a large one. There have been very few substitutions, but they've been sensible ones.

I can't compare the prices as we've never used Ocado. The best thing is just to try Sainsburys and see how that works out for you.

Me too. I rarely get substitutions and if i do theyre good (chargrilled chicken instead of roast chicken).

The only problem i have is that they always seem to send salads which go out of date the following day.

I haven't tried any other shops shop I can't compare, but I've used sainsbury's delivery for over a decade. I think it's a great service; rarely late, rarely a substitution, usually a fine one if so, no quibble if I decline the substitution.

We've used sainsburys for years. I like them, they deliver to my kitchen. Tried Ocado a couple of times and they were good but more money for the same food- only seemed to have brand names for certain things?
Sainsburys recently seemed to have reduced the selection of things you can order but that means less substitutions so I don't mind.

I tried Ocado with an offer plus a year's delivery pass, but needed the introductory discount to get down to the same price as the Sainsburys shop, and couldn't get delivery slots (or change orders after 5), so ended up rebuying my Sainburys delivery pass and continuing with them.

I do most of my shopping at Sainsbury's. Because it's my 2 closest. Now using Aldi aswell.

Occasionally use online. Fab. Easy. Favourites. Most times I get no substitutions.

Yeah I’ve had trouble with use by dates with Sainsbury’s like a pp. I once had 4 x 4pts of milk with two days date on them. When I complained they said that wasn’t classed as short dated so it was just unlucky! But generally most of the fresh stuff only has two or three days on it whereas if I shop at Aldi or Morrisons most things have up to a week.

Might just be where my shop comes from though. Maybe they have a policy of getting rid of short coded stuff on unsuspecting online customers.

I gave up, had 9pm delivery where most the dates were the next day and the milk that day. Short dates were a problem all the time. Was a shame because I like their food.

I use Sainsbury's and very rarely get a substitute.

I tried Asda once and they substituted vegan sausages to meat ones Confused

Most Sainsbury's comes from the local store though which is greener than a hub. Morrison's and Ocado round here are delivered from a huge warehouse in Tamworth nearly 50 miles away!

I've switched the other way - used Sainsbury's for 3 years, and now using Ocado (for almost a year at this point). Sainsbury's is only as good as your local store. For the last year or so we were getting loads of silly substitutions, short-dated things not being checked, used to get a Sunday delivery and stock levels were really bad.

Products used to disappear all the time from the Sainsbury's website, and at least on Ocado they mark items as out of stock. Offers used to get substituted a lot with Sainsbury's, which made it a bit pointless in the end!

I always use Sainsburys few subs abd usually sensible but I ordered raspberries, strawberries and cherries a few weeks a go and got 3 lots of rasps! If they do sub they refund any price difference abd happily take back and refund anything you aren't happy with

Yes, switched from Tesco - much cheaper and good quality.

Sill use Ocado periodically for less everyday items.

Been using Sainsburys for last 4 weeks. Main problem has been dates, a few times items have been dated to be used on day of delivery. No problems with substitutions, they just didn’t offer any which was a bit of a nuisance. Got email from Morrisons offering 2 x £15 off £60 shops so trying them.

Short dates sounds like a PITA as I tend to shop for the week/10 days.

Seems like it’s a common problem with Sainsbury’s.

I switch between Ocado, Tesco and Saisbury all depending on delivery charge, days available and offers. I find them all good tbh

I've used Sainsbury's delivery for years. Substitutions are few and far between. They are pretty good when offered. I've never had a problem with short dates. In fact a couple of weeks ago a product with a short date was highlighted to me and I was asked if I wanted to accept it.

Quidco are doing £12 cashback on a Sainsburys delivery over £40 at the moment so mine is coming in a few hours!

Sainsburys online shopping drives me mad. The app is terrible, and there's no easy way of requesting a refund like there is with ocado or asda.

I was given ham and sausages with short dates, no info from the driver, and they wouldn't refund (after I waited a week for a reply to my email).

Report
PickAChew · 17/09/2019 19:55

I just phone up if there's a date issue. They're supposed to flag short dates and I complain when they don't in the basis that I would choose something different, if shopping in person, unless an item on its date was discounted and I could use or freeze it. I got ectra vouchers on top of my refund when they cocked up like that, once.

Waitrose are no better but their minimum order is massive so I stopped bothering with them once the introductory offers rN out. No ocado here and I hate tesco and Asda so certainly wouldn't do an online shop with either. So sainsburys it is, but only for long life stuff or fresh food I need immediately.

We normally use Asda online and other bits from Aldi. I am always shocked by how little I get for my money on the rare occasions I use sainsbury (in store not online).

Report
Spinnaret · 17/09/2019 20:04

I have switched from Waitrose (in store) and Ocado (online) to Sainsbury's for everything. It has saved me a small fortune over the last few months. Had my first issue ever today, when the driver couldn't find my house and arrived late when I was meant to be on a work conference call.

I have not had short dated products, very few substitutions and they are usually logical.

Report
Sauvignonblanket · 17/09/2019 20:11

I use it and am happy - I have noticed the same about short dates occasionally but flag it with the driver or ring afterwards and customer service sorts it.
