Decluttering one thing a day part 8 - the one where we de-tetris the cupboard of doom!

Welcome! This is thread 8 of the declutter one thing a day challenge!

This is just holding the discussion open until @stealthninjamum gets her computer sorted and back in action :)

Everyone is welcome here, new and old. We implore you to join us on our mission to clear the cupboards, swipe the sides and declutter all debris!
We recycle, reuse, give away, donate or just plain chuck it out to help clear our spaces.

If you're new, start with a small mission - can you tackle one small area at a time? Be it a bedside table, a bathroom cabinet or The Kitchen Drawer?
Just one thing a day is all we ask and report back here with your outs for the day, or week at a time. It's very easy to get the bug when you start small and have success!

Will we find any more big bags of change? Can we sell more big ticket items? Will the school books all get returned? Will the happy meal toys ever stop multiplying and just how many books can we say goodbye to?!

Morning! You are very productive for someone with a newborn Woogle!

I got rid of a pile of magazines yesterday. They have been in a basket for ages and I was planning on re reading them but decided they could just go. Recycling was going out so out they went.

I have been sorting my bathroom too. I’m on a No Spend Beauty thread and was using up stuff and not buying new. Have gradually used up a lot of random bits and pieces but then rediscovered the joy of buying new skincare and I went a bit mad! Bought a big carousel storage unit for it all and it is sorted properly and I can see what I have and use it. I had a couple of small boxes and a few baskets of small tubes of stuff from Beauty boxes and beauty advent calendars. I have now three empty baskets and the boxes have gone. One small basket of things like face masks and samples remains but it is all stuff I will use.

WoogleCone · 14/06/2019 09:30

Morning peridot! Well everyone here was asleep except me so it gave me something to do Haha. Well done on the magazine and beauty stuff, good to get it used up and not wasted!

Miniwoogle did some stomach decluttering this morning so shes sparko on the couch and I have a tonne of new laundry Envy

Checking In!

SandAndSea · 14/06/2019 10:11

I'm checking in too! Hi everyone!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 14/06/2019 10:18

Broken Tupperware container in recycling.

RaspberryBlonde · 14/06/2019 11:09

Marking my place! Thanks for the thread Woogle, hope MiniWoogle is ok. I do like the newborn phase where they sleep a lot, I really appreciated it second time around!

Out so far today is the seal from the shower door which was leaking. Replaced with a new one though.

Bad night with DS last night so currently decluttering coffee and biscuits!

StealthNinjaMum · 14/06/2019 12:01

I'm back!

I'm so sorry for vanishing, I still haven't sorted out my computer and I hate typing on my crappy phone. Thank you so much for thread 8!

So to explain my absence. As many of you know my husband left at Christmas. I probably didn't articulate how devastated I was at the time because I always keep a brave face on things. Moving forward to today I can't tell you how good things are. I have lost weight (down to size 8) and decluttered the wardrobe. I have also been online dating and met four lovely men one of whom is now my boyfriend. Its only been a month and I know that guys on online dating can be very flakey but I am so happy. We were cuddling last night and I just felt so warm and protected.

There are no plans to sell the house yet, possibly when the children are 18 but I have been madly decluttering still. Last week I decluttered my airing cupboard, towels and bedding and it is amazing. I have also decluttered a load of toys.

Today I am going to hit the paperwork.... again!

StealthNinjaMum · 14/06/2019 12:03

I forgot to say congratulations on miniwoogle! Try not to do too much wooglecone enjoy every second of those newborn snuggles.

PurpleFrog · 14/06/2019 12:37

Welcome back Stealth! I'm happy things are working out for you.

I haven't checked in since the beginning of the month. I don't seem to have managed to do very much at home, although I have made good progress at work. I have decided this is the year that I get my work office under control. I have earmarked 7 (personal) books for the Charity Shop, and I am trying to excavate the cluttered flat surfaces so I can actually use them. I have thrown out quite a few bits of old software and manuals, and I am trying to file the paperwork I find as I go - at least temporarily. It's amazing how much putting similar things together helps. I'm hoping that spending 3-4 short sessions a week will make a big difference by the end of the summer.

On the home front I have sold another eBay item, filled up the brown bin with garden waste for collection this morning, and am trying to get back on top of the washing and ironing. I have a number of summery leisure items I need to advertise or take to the Charity Shop soon. Sorting these out is my goal for this weekend. We have been busy over the past couple of weeks, so I didn't want to advertise things for pickup, but if I don't do it soon, no-one will want them this year!

WoogleCone · 14/06/2019 13:04

Welcome back stealth! I'm really pleased for you that everything is falling into place and well done on all the clearing out and the new fella!

I think you'll be right on time for selling stuff purplefrog! I'm told summer is right around the corner....

I have a massive pile of things to sell. I need to do that too.

Today was brilliant. I went totally against the spirit of the thread. I spent a couple of hours filing paperwork and shredding. I filled a massive bin bag with paper to be recycled.

I then went through the dining room getting rid of pots from morocco, an oil and vinegar jar, placemats and random things that have found themselves in the dining room drawers like a couple of purses and a CD.

I also whizzed through dd2s bedroom and got her permission to chuck out some magnetic letters, Disney dolls and books.

I have also put some much hated towels in the charity shop pile.

SandAndSea · 15/06/2019 16:21

Well done, Stealth, that sounds like loads.

I've done a reasonable amount here. More filing and boxing up stuff. I'm a bit disheartened that our dining room dresser, which I'd previously cleared quite a lot out of, has now become the new home for some of DP's boxed up office stuff. But, at least it's all away and organised.

Outs include a filing tray and about 2 carrier bags of papers.

StealthNinjaMum · 15/06/2019 16:43

sandandsea because I like living on the edge I shredded some credit card statements from the 90s! One day I'll shred all of them. (I hope)

gassylady · 15/06/2019 17:42

Welcome back indeed Stealth I love a good shredding sessionGrin
This week small suitcase to charity shop, four things sold on eBay, few tatty bits into rag bag. Couple of DVDS in that I spotted in charity shop Shock

SydneyCarton · 15/06/2019 19:42

More bloody happy meal toys, aaargh! Some jumping leopard type thing, I think. Sometimes I think David Attenborough is going to come round and give me a personal bollocking for polluting the oceans Blush. Everyone else sounds like they're doing great, well done!

SandAndSea · 15/06/2019 23:11

Stealth you're a braver woman than me! Star

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 15/06/2019 23:49

Forced fridge declutter as we are not sure whether built in fridge working or not. All consolidated to one fridge. Long overdue really, especially the freezer compartment.

AuditAngel · 16/06/2019 00:00

I need to join you all, although I am going away on Monday. I saw evidence of a relative’s hoarding today, which has given me the kick 8 needed to acknowledge DH is right, the house is too messy.

A hangover today prevented me g all my plan, and I do need to pack tomorrow, but I know I have to look for some of the clothes clothes, needed for the holiday. Time to crack on.

WoogleCone · 16/06/2019 07:14

Thats loads stealth, well done!! Do you still get sent new credit card statements or are you on a paper free thing now? I dont get sent them now which is quite relieving, online if I care enough to look but also not in the house!

Good job on the sales gassylady, suitcase out is a big space saver too.

sydney, they're still multiplying huh?! I think David Attenboriugh should go to Ronald McDonald to dish out the bollocking hahha.

aroundtheworld, I do love a good stock take. Even unexpectedly! Hope your fridge is repairable. And that you found tasty freezer things to declutter Grin

Welcome auditangel! Happy to have you on board, you never know you might find an item or two for the get rid pile when you're turfing your suitcases out. That certainly happened here (although I was just clearing the cupboard they were in, no holiday for me haha). Theres no pressure to go crazy here, just small steps :)
Have a great holiday!

Welcome, AuditAngel!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 16/06/2019 15:02

Bag full of garden toys out
Children's swing seat dismantled ready for disposal

StealthNinjaMum · 16/06/2019 15:43

Welcome auditangel.

wooglecone no I still receive all statements in paper format. I am generally organised and open them and file them as soon as they come in. I think if I didn't have them in paper format I wouldn't look at them. This applies to utility bills as well.

Last night / early hours of this morning I decluttered some beers and wine with my new boyfriend (I love saying that!) We had loads of alcohol bought for xmas and it seems a shame to throw them away.

Welcome back Stealth! Glad things are going well for you and new chap, that's very good news after a rubbish start to the year!

Had a couple of good outs this week: a bag of old towels went to the cat shelter, a crappy Ikea coffee table went to the tip, and a bag of clothes sorted for the charity shop. My wardrobe is now decluttered to the point that it's almost a capsule wardrobe, and it makes getting dressed for work so much easier!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 17/06/2019 15:33

I am currently in my cupboard of doom. I think the contents is breeding faster than I can declutter it. I've nearly filled two packing boxes for the charity collection and about halfway through. Found some long lost stuff though. DD2 loving the summer clothes I've found that were DD1s.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 17/06/2019 18:30

Final score in Cupboard of Doom... 2bpxes and four bags of stuff for Charity Collection
