Housekeeping

Remember, remember to Fly through November, but Fledglings will chatter a lot

If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine and Cake along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that you can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in zones of the house which are designated weekly; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave you with loads more time to do someting more interesting instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling when you are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once. No problem if you miss a day or two; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again!

We advise not signing up to receive the Flylady e-mails as you will be inundated! All the information you need will be linked here on a daily basis.

From the first of the month, we will be following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

More info here on getting started and Flying lessons. Here's the launch pad for more experienced fledglings. Don't be put off by the barf-tastic language of the site - the underlying system is sound!

Humungous thanks to SlimChance for leading us through October and such a copy-and-pasteable OP.... Thanks

All welcome!!

Signing in here too, thank you to Blue for November.

Starting November with a spotless hall, cleared it this morning so that the water leak fixing men could lift floorboards if necessary. They said they would replace the section under the drive first, but it took ages to find where it entered the house (it was the last place anyone would have guessed) so I had to leave them to it and go out. Came back to a cryptic job sheet through the door, so not really sure if it's been fixed. It was a frustrating morning, lots of hanging about outside talking to water men and neighbour (it looked at one point as though the pipe went under her garden), plus no water inside.

Anyway, picked up MIL from the station and she spend the afternoon with us, I took the DCs trick or treating (DS went along quite happily with DD and friend after all), we went to a nearby estate where lots of friends live and met lots of others doing the same so that was nice. MIL then dropped back to the station. I'm really tired for some reason.

So, a fresh start tomorrow.

Can I join you please? Getting a bit fed up with the hundreds of emails direct from flylady and the relentless positivity thinking this might be easier and more fun Smile

Hi to Pumpkintopf and owlface - welcome aboard. :) You definitely want to unsubscribe from those emails, Pumpkintopf and there'll be plenty more fun and swearing on here! Wink

-----
Anyway, the first babystep is here - start off with a shiny sink.

The first mission is to deal with hotspots in the front porch, entrance and dining room.

Thanks SC for October (sorry it became impossible to keep up here) and more Thanks to Blue for Nov.
Hello to Owlface and Pumpkintopf and waves to everyone else.
Exhausted and really struggling tbh, and need very big boot up butt to cope with it all, but have caught up rest of last months thread and managed to carve a pumpkin and we're about to eat it's innards, so tommorow's another month...

A big thanks to SC for fabulous thread leadership last month and an equally big thanks to Blue for taking over the reins this month.

Have had a hectic day, starting with a meeting first thing. Afraid I have lost all motivation for Halloween this year, but it turns out that the DC can manage quite well without me now. So, DS2 decorated the house with his friend, then went off trick or treating with a bunch of school friends and their mums, whilst DS1 carved his own pumpkin and handed out sweets at the door.

Tomorrow I will be crisis cleaning.

Welcome, Pumpkin and owlface.

Hope the water is fixed now, WhoKnows. How's the poorly pussy cat?

Well done on carving a pumpkin and cooking with it too, Just. That's more than I managed to do this year.

Am exhausted and looking forward to bed...

I'm in :)

HUGE thanks to SC for last month and Blue for this one Thanks

Need to work this morning (monthly invoices, bank rec, beginning of the month stuff) but will be back in a while.
Did start the day with Kensington Buns (PA's version of Chelsea Buns but with chocolate and marshmallows instead of yucky dried fruit) - thanks again for that recipe PA

I do actually have a decent sized hallway to tidy for the first time ever this month Grin
Sending sympathetic vibes to Splatpancake re extension work - it is grim but it does eventually finish.

Hello! Well here we go again. The first baby step is the one I hate the most.

Mum here at the mo & we still have halloween strewn around us. Not sure what to do today....exhibition or just a cafe. I could just sleep. Zero motivation.

House feels cold & damp today. I think I have post halloween come down! Xx

Still, I'm with you on that one, never got the joy of the shiny sink thing - it's just a PITA to me. But then I am a grumpy old bag Confused

Report
saturn · 01/11/2013 18:00

No, the sink thing is supposed to make you smile when you see it...but the next time I see it after shining it, it has always been used and looks a mess which just makes me think why did I bother?

Anyway, determined to stick to it this time so today I have shined my sink...

Hope everyone has a lovely evening Wine
