The Fail is now gunning for the GOSH QT lady

The Great Ormond Street Hospital lady on QT last night is now under attack from the Mail. They are twisting her words and calling for her to be sacked.

Unbelievable.

I am beginning to despair now.

To be fair, what she said was as equally apalling as the way the Daily mail have portrayed the Judges who decided the case. I watched the programme and thought it was an outrageous thing for her to say.

Daily Fail are fuckwits ... that I can agree with, but IMHO she threw herself to the wolves with that ill judged comment.

To me I think she just chose the wrong words to express her frustration. She does not deserve to be villified the way she has been.

I think what she was trying to say is imagine how you would feel if ... but you can not imagine it a stupid statement and people voted for many different reasons

what she did say was appalling but she has apologised, she is not a public speaker

I think she didn't express herself clearly. Probably meant to say something like they should image what it would be like to be in that situation. She was all flustered and was trying to portray the desperate situation that some people find themselves in and how others should try to put themselves in their shoes.

Tbh I cannot imagine ever wishing illness on anyone's child. I can mangle my sentences with no bother but don't think those words in that order would ever come out. Nevertheless if she's apologised that should be it.

Gosh I've had daft sentences in my time. I remember answering a quiz question and couldn't think of 'Capability' Brown. I said 'Calamity' Brown. I don't think someone known as a Calamity would have been in much demand.

I think that she had a valid point but unfotunately chose the wrong words due to the pressure of being on camera. She must be feeling awful.

Yes birdy, very shameful indeed. It seems like they want to destroy anyone who dares speak out against Brexit to try and scare everyone into silence. Won't work, bullies never win.

I agree entirely with her sentiments but her words came out wrong at the end. I was a little shocked too, but it was clear that she had meant "any of us, or you, could be in this situation at some point and you would therefore need the funding".

Not only has she been vilified in the above mentioned rag, it is happening on the GOSH visitor page and worse, on social media in places like the Britain First site. These people all now know her name, where she works and, I have heard, where she lives (this last apparently courtesy of the Mail, but I don't know if that's true).

I hope she is getting police advice and protection. The abuse and hatred that is going on us frightening.

Those who want to could complain to the Mail, and also support her on the GOSH page?

I'd love to believe that's true but sadly I see the opposite all round me, bullies win all the time. They certainly seem to be winning in this country at the moment

It's ill judged, crass, worrying and a dangerous sentiment for a HCP to make and I bet her bosses are livid as its just doesn't put anybody in a good light when you use that kind of counter argument. Debate the reasons intelligently and rationally don't wish misfortune on people especially when your affiliated to something like GOSH

I do feel a bit sorry for her as she clearly was emotional and blurted it out.

But I just can't condone it. I hear her apology and thank you for it, but still, this is one instance where I think people will still feel shocked and put out even after her apology.

The woman who brought the eu case to the judges is being bullied- indeed a woman with the same name as her has also been receiving vitriol messages and even death threats. Nice people.

I feel for the woman, it was a stupid thing to say, and as a pp said, a mangled way if saying - any one of us could have a child needing this research, what will we do when that isn't there.

She has apologised and that should be it. I first read the responses to this on a Facebook feed - my god, the viciousness was appalling.

Unfortunately her comment has meant the real issue that she was talking about has been lost. My ds is involved in an EU wide study into a specific piece of genetic research. The sharing and open access of this sort of research is vital.

Birdy, saying 'I don't condone it' doesn't equate to 'so I think she should be vilified.'

But, if you say something like that on national television then yes, the overwhelming response is going to be negative.
