International travel to the US

Trump is looking at international travel. The US is considering testing for coronavirus on the plane.
He’s acknowledged much of Florida’s business comes from international travel, particularly from South America.
Theme parks and attractions looking to open in phases, with some restrictions initially.
America are clearly keen to get their economy up and running at whatever cost.

I've got a US holiday in August so I'm hoping its reopened by then.

@Mookie81

Me too. Florida Keys. End of July. Insurance in place.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Insurance won't be valid

I cannot IMAGINE wanting to go to Florida in the throes of a pandemic with thousands of people from all over the world. And if the UK is even vaguely more under control the USA is very unlikely to be and you are probably going to import more cases. Disneyland will still be there next year

The US is almost the last place on earth that I would be going to this year. It's almost impossible to tell how bad it's going to get, but it's not looking good. The very thought of getting ill while there is chilling.

Also not sure any insurance company would pay out for problems in the next few months if you do go.

We are meant to be going in August from New York to Chicago.

I really don't want to go to be honest.

Mine is.

And there are insurance companies insuring against medical treatment (but not cancellation) which will suit many people.

I am imagining and praying for it to go ahead right now! You’d be surprised how many of us are on the travel websites and forums.

I’m not going to Disney through. We are (hopefully) off to the Keys for nature trails; canoeing and diving. So easier for us to SD whilst there.

We've got wdw booked for August, I'm hoping they release the free dining fir next year and then I'll amend. If not I'm going to amend the deposit over to maybe Menorca or Lapland. I don't want to spend the full amount going there to only get half the experience if parades and fireworks aren't on. If I was the op I'd be tempted to go to the keys.

@Lifejacket

That’s our plan.

  1. The keys
  2. Sanibel
  3. Orlando (but not parks now...we’ll maybe universal if it open, but I’m not bothered to be honest. I just like to visit Circle B, Lake Apopka and Tibet Butler, which are all nature trails and you don’t see many people there.
  4. Vero Beach

I’m happy to wear a mask on the plane, so fingers crossed.

When’s this? 8-9 weeks time?

Report
Lifejacket · 30/04/2020 14:13

@DBML if you go I hope you have a great time and stay safe. I took encouragement last night from the graph on the news which put deaths as a proportion of the population. The US was below the UK.

On a side note I have ordered Cambridge masks for my family Incase and at the time thought that if we did end up going I'd feel a lot better with these. They aren't due for delivery until early August but maybe worth a look for you?

When do you think our govt will release the embargo on all but essential travel? I’m not thinking that’s coming anytime soon?

@llikefresias

I don’t know. But I’m hoping for July.

It’s just a glimmer of hope. A shred of positivity. A chance in an otherwise bleak year ahead.
I’ll give that up when I absolutely have to and not a moment before.

We've had to cancel our Florida holiday next month :( I'm not looking to rebook any time soon, not even 2021 in case we have to wear masks etc. I will be surprised if international travel opens any time soon, with it being an election year I think there's going to be an increased anti-foreigner rhetoric, although Florida is very reliant on international travel a lot of Trump supporters will want to be told borders are "closed" just my musings but I think international travel will be one of the last lifts, internal tourism must be big and if theme parks have reduced entry internal guests might be enough, but I guess if it's state by state Florida will be one of the first.

We have cancelled our Canada and US trip, planned for July-Aug on the basis that it won't be the same trip if we have to wear masks etc / if the national parks etc are closed and also on the basis that there's a low chance it would happen at all. Booked with trailfinders and they have been excellent. No loss of money at all

We will travel again - love our holidays - but just not yet and usually I am a very positive person

@User202004

I’m sorry you’ve had to cancel. I know that in the grand scheme of things a holiday is not a massive priority...but I suspect like us you’ve saved and looked forward to it and I can imagine the disappointment.
The theme parks will be a problem, I can see that. They may even decide not to bother opening at half capacity. Our holiday isn’t reliant on the theme parks...just the small thing of planes flying and borders being open.
I am just hoping. Thread after thread is doom and gloom and I can’t handle it. I’d rather look forward to my holiday and get a few months more of excitement, rather than worry about it for two - three more months...no matter what the outcome is.

Oh I'm gutted, I know we're supposed to say we have our health, other people are worse off etc, but I'm still devastated. We've been saving and planning for this for a long time. Sorry if I sounded negative, it really upset me back in March when I still had hope too. Everything is just so uncertain, I always said I will assume I am going until I am not so I don't blame you for doing the same!

@User202004

I can imagine. I really do feel for you. Holidays are not just time in the sun...they are times the family has real fun together (esp at places like WDW) , they are really important for MH and being 1000s of miles away from home from time to time is important, when home is associated with work and stress and school and cleaning etc. We need our holidays.

It must have been crushing for you. If you’re looking for the full on theme park experience, you are right to hold out until things are back to normal. The fireworks and parades are unmissable. You’ll be back there one day though and I hope when you do, you spoil yourself and have the most incredible time xx
