BBT; is it only good for confirming OV, not when to dtd?

So now on cycle 6 of ttc #2. I’ve started doing bbt again and have been reading into it again. I just wondered why people do it? Mainly to confirm ov and then watch their temps like a hawk in the 2ww? Am I right in saying that it doesn’t actually help you to time dtd? I may be completely wrong but just wondering if I’m just adding something else to do everyday.

It's not helpful for telling you Day-by-day when to dtd but it's the only way (other then blood tests) to say whether or not you actually ovulated. People do it over a few cycles to see what day they ovulate so they know when to dtd for future cycles, or people like me that have erratic cycles combine it with OPK to confirm ovulation.

I did it this month along with OPKs. My understanding is that OPKs will only tell you that your body is trying to ovulate, but can't confirm if it actually happened, and for some people ovulation doesn't happen successfully so it's worth knowing that info. Seeing a pattern of temps around and shortly after ovulation will tell you if it actually occurred. A lot of the tracking apps also let you record things like CM and other symptoms that can help you see patterns so that each subsequent month you're more likely to recognise ovulation before it happens and get your timing right.

I also used the Ava bracelet and that actually does predict when you will ovulate. The last few days I've woken up to 'peak fertility' notices and this morning a 'you will probably ovulate today' which fits with the positive OPK I got yesterday Smile

Thanks ladies. Ohana that’s really cool that you bracelet is tying on with your opks. Maybe I’ll just stick with it for a couple of cycles to confirm that ov and temp shift is offering and make sure I’m picking my most fertile days with dtd.
