Hello Mumsnet! This is my first post. I'm 28 and new to ttc. On cycle #2 cd12. Very few of my friends have kids or are interested in having them so I'm in need of some support!

I'd love to hear from others in a similar position and find some cycle buddies!

Hey. Thanks for the reply. Have you told many people you are Ttc? It seems odd to keep a secret like this from close friends and family and yet I haven't told anyone! I think it's mild irrational paranoia about ability to conceive. And also being nervous about being the "first one" of a friendship group to move into the baby making stage of life...

Hi delphinium I'm 30 TTC #1 cycle 2 cd4 I've only told a couple of friends I'm really close to at work. I don't want the pressure of family knowing yet, we have told them we might start trying in October after a few events we have coming up are over.

Hi Delphinium, Violet, Snowflake. Also new to MN. 31 and TTC cycle #1. Definitely keeping it completely on the down low. First to try amongst our close friends (so far as I know...) and fairly recently started a new job, so would only want to put it out there if I had actual news. Plus definitely a dose of irrational paranoia!

Hi guys, just joined the site and learnt lots already. I'm early thirties and my partner and I are ttc for the first time. Were really excited, the only trouble is that I would unfortunately have to tell work at the earliest opportunity due to the job that I do and being risk assessed etc. This therefore puts a bit of a stress on everything. Do I keep quiet and risk something happening or do I tell work when normally that early people wouldn't even have told family?! I haven't told friends or family that we're trying so it ill be a lovely surprise for everyone...apart form work!!!

daisylassy · 12/06/2015 19:23

Hmmm that's a tricky one as you don't want folks at work expecting it to happen then the pressure of it doesn't happen straight away....I suppose you have to weigh up the risks yourself and decide if you are going to tell work. My friend was similar she worked in a lab where there is possible exposure to radiation age decided to only tell them once she got the BFP... Do you have lab's labradormummy??
Is anyone using via app?? I starting using it last month but it keeps moving my possible ovulation dates based on my data. I suppose it may need a wee while to find a pattern x I hope you all have lots of June luck!!

Hi all, this thread has grown since I last posted!! I've only told two real life friends, one has a five year old and has just had another baby in March, and the other is no where near the baby making stage of life yet.

Labradormummy I used to work in a line of work that sounds similar to yours, when someone got pregnant at our place they used to tell their supervisor the truth that they were in early pregnancy and be put on light duties, and every one else got told they had a back injury or ankle injury etc. Then they either came back to full duties and we might suspect but never be sure or they became pregnant. Also would like to know how many labradors you are mummy to? I have a springer myself

Daisy I've got ovia app and also my calender app, I like the my calender one better as it seems clearer to me and easier to use

Where are you all in your cycles, is anyone testing soon? Im DPO8 today, and considering testing on Sunday at DPO10 but should probably hold off a bit longer than that if I can x

Hi Labrador Smile I've got the same dilemma. I've decided I wouldn't tell them until I got a BFP, but I think I would then do so right away, even though this would be within the risky early stages. As soon as I have a BFP it will effect my behaviour at work, and probably my perceived performance unless people know the reason behind it. But still keeping it to myself while we're TTC. Is this realistic for you, or do they need to know while you're TTC? I think at the point work knew I'd have to tell nearest and dearest - not because it'd get out otherwise, just that it would be weird colleagues knowing and not the people I'm closest to.

I used to work as a vet nurse and one of the nurses was ttc. She basically just said she was trying to have a baby and would no longer be able to help with any X-rays that needed to be taken. We were all fine with that (small team). We didn't ask her how things were going. Just got on with it really. x

Hey everyone. I'm so glad to see so many replies!

Well I've had a fun sex fest week so giving the hubby a rest now and looking forward to testing in a few weeks. Trying my best not to freak out.

I have spoken to one friend, who has two kids and is thinking about a third. I just has to speak to someone but otherwise I'm keeping it very much on the down low. I've been to two weddings this week and lots of chat about how brilliant it is to be without child. I quietly kind of nod and count days till ovulation in my head... I think most friends think I don't want kids because I'm career driven etc.

pallas I am all about the irrational fear! I know I'm really good at not getting pregnant... And you don't know anything until you try. After stopping the pill it took 40 days for my period to come and I was almost exploding with worry... sigh I'm such a control freak!

daisy violet I'm also using Ovia and quite like it. I love the tracking. I think it's the scientist in me.

Who has a test coming up? What tests do people have? (Clearblue or cheapy Amazon ones?). When is the earliest it's reasonable to test?

I'm in 2ww and I'm going to try and hold off until if/when af is overdue. Cycle has been a bit irregular since coming off pill last November. So annoying, before going on the pill I was regular to within 2 hours! Makes the guessing and waiting a lot harder not knowing actually when af is late!

I've got one superdrug test left over from when I wasn't ttc... hopefully just having the one will help with self control to wait it out a bit this cycle. Don't know when it's realistic to start testing...

Delphinium not really sure that I should be testing yet but might do one tomorrow, expecting bfn though really as it's still 3 days before AF due. Due AF wednesday and she usually comes in the early morning. Just got a load of internet cheapies that came with my amazon opks to use, they say they are 10miu/ml. When's everyone else testing?

Report
VioletIbiza88 · 13/06/2015 19:44

I'd say the earliest its reasonable to test would be 10dpo as long as you've got it in your mind that that is very early and if it's a bfn not to despair.

Hi guys, was great logging in tonight and seeing replies and comments. Violet...yes sounds like exactly the same line of work!!!! I think I'll try and risk assess it myself and go for as long as I can and then tell my supervisor and do the whole back injury thing until I absolutely have no choice but to tell people. I know its only to safeguard me but it just seems so unfair!!

Yes I still have my gorgeous labs. They are my babies. The one is extremely laid back and the other is a little bit of a terror but they are 'labradorable'!!!!

daisylassy · 13/06/2015 21:08

I've bought the cheapies off amazon as well as the cheap ovulation tests all about 15 of each for under a tenner!!
The ovulation ones are working well I think so they are telling me it's time to get busy!!
We have a wedding next weekend dreading the oh why you not drinking?? We are staying over so I can't use the driving excuse... Fingers crossed for us all x

Oysterbabe · 13/06/2015 21:30

Daisy you can have a drink at the wedding. If you're just about to ovulate now it wouldn't have even implanted by next weekend so it won't be sharing your drinks.

Hello Ladies! I'm new to this. I'm 27 and DH 27. We're trying for our first baby. I came off Loestrin pill mid April. If I got my Ovulation date right I am currently 12 dpo.
Sorry if TMI but I had very light spotting and blood in my cm 7 days post ovulation, is this a sign of implantation? I tested with first response on friday (10 dpo - BFN) - I think I tested waay to early. I just can't help myself! I don't have any early pregnancy symptoms at all... I will wait to see if AF appears!

I am in the same boat as many of you, I am one of the first of my friends to get married and now who are TTC... I also don't want everyone to know in case we have any issues in TTC. I have told a close friend but our family don't know.. I feel like I don't have anyone to talk to about this..
