Chemical pregnancy or heavy period?

I've been off the pill for a month & have just had my first AF. I'm on day 4. It started off light & pink but has become increasingly heavy. A super plus tampon is lasting 1-2 hours maximum.

I'm incredibly achy all around my legs & back, very crampy & have been having headaches all month. I'm also exhausted.

The reason I was on the pill initially was for heavy periods - but nothing like this.

So my question is, is this an initial clean out that is to be expected as the first post-cerazette period, or is it just the way it is? Or - is it a chemical pregnancy?

Is there even any way to tell - and does the answer affect the way I deal with it?

Off to crawl under a duvet now.

This probably isn't much help. But when I came off cerazette I had a normal period, then the next one was nearly a week early, very very heavy with clots and only lasted 48 hours. My next one was normal, just a couple of days early but I'm convinced the 48 hour one was a chemical pregnancy but have no way of knowing for sure x

Thanks, Pickles. Trying to figure out what the different scenarios may mean is no easy matter.

my 1st af after cerazette was horrendous, going through super plus tampons every hour and used maternity pads for extra protection it lasted 8 days.

my 2nd was heavy but nowhere near as bad and the 3rd was a regular one

hopr it helps

the 2

Have you done a preg test? If its still faintly positive I guess that would answer your question. Impossible to say without having done one prior to the bleeding.

Have to say the pill can screw you over! When I stoppedtaking mine I bled for a month. Not heavily but still annoying!

When I came off the pill my periods didn't change at all - and prior to being on the pill I had some horrendous periods.

You could take a test if you wanted to or just wait and see if next months is a bit more settled?

Thank you all! Littlemisswine, that's very interesting - that's exactly what mine is like and we are approaching day 5. I have heard the pill can be a bugger when you come off it.

I haven't taken a test and don't think I will - unless there is a practical reason to differentiate. Does anyone know?

Gah. I hate not knowing what my body is doing.

Ive just had a chemical, it was only slightly heavier then a normal period (which are pretty heavy) and lasted 8 days instead of 5/6. I got a positive test up untill the last day of bleeding. Tbh I would rather have not known and put it down to a dodgy period. Not sure if this helps at all.

Wouldn't have thought there was any difference in how you manage it. Most of them happen without you knowing anyway don't they. Its only early testing that causes people to pick them up. Hope you feel better soon x

it really awful, mine did settle down after a few cycles though. i rang my gp as I was concerned and she said its really common with cerazette

id recommend using an app like p tracker to track your cycle and record the really heavy days so you'll have an idea when your cycles back

Well it's much much lighter today & I feel slightly more human, albeit still achy & grumpy!

I guess I'll never know...but good to know there's nothing to worry about.

And now, evidently, it's completely finished.

Littlemisswine, this is seeming very very similar.
