Planet of the apes? horrible sorry!

shonaspurtle · 21/01/2010 15:59

I know a Galen. He changed his name to something else when he was 16 because of the teasing - sorry.

Songbird · 21/01/2010 15:59

GAYlen? Childish I know, but sorry, but I couldn't do it to a child.

GrimmaTheNome · 21/01/2010 16:01

Early Roman doctor is what springs to my mind - quite classy. Different without being fussy or difficult to spell or pronounce.

GrimmaTheNome · 21/01/2010 16:02

Oh, I had't thought of the 'Gay-len' thing.

Always feel sorry for american blokes called Gaylord!

Songbird · 21/01/2010 16:15

Oh dear, you think Roman doctor, I think gaylord - and I'm an archaeologist!

Hullygully · 21/01/2010 16:17

No

Bucharest · 21/01/2010 16:51

Planet of the Apes here too.
Then the gay bit.

Pingpong · 21/01/2010 16:53

I've never heard of it but I'm not keen - sorry!

MmeLindt · 21/01/2010 16:54

Sorry, think that you are on your own there.

LOL at your DD.

rosieposey · 21/01/2010 16:54

I like it, but kids are cruel.

clemette · 21/01/2010 16:57

Quite apart from the "gay" thing I am not keen on surnames as names. A bit like calling him Hippocrates I reckon...

Totallyfloaty35 · 21/01/2010 17:57

It means calm, didnt know it was a surname, not heard it much before.Oh well looks like im pretty much alone in my love of it.
Kids are cruel ,wouldnt it be lovely to just like a name and not have to think about all the ways it can be twisted

I think the rest of your family have the right ideas.

What are their names?

Would it seem v. outlandish by comparison?

LittleWhiteWolf · 21/01/2010 18:03

I really like it...but I dont think society is ready for it...or has been ready and is now beyond ready for it...

SixtyFootDoll · 21/01/2010 18:04

Reminds me of Golum form Lord of the Rings

Totallyfloaty35 · 21/01/2010 18:33

diddl, i have 3 DDs and the only thing i can say about their names is that they were all in the Top Ten Names for Dogs published recently !

crankytwanky · 21/01/2010 18:34

I thought of the Dr Bloke too.

Did he disect pigs?

I like it!

crankytwanky · 21/01/2010 18:35

Lol at dog names!

Post a link to that list!

GrimmaTheNome · 21/01/2010 18:35

Oh well then floaty, its easy - you need to call your DS Max.

PollyTechnique · 21/01/2010 19:08

First thing I thought was that it sounded a bit "sci-fi". Don't like it, sorry.

weasle · 21/01/2010 21:03

Yes, early Roman doctor, the authority on anatomy for 1000 yrs or more.

I met a boy once called Galen, he was 16ish and at Eton. Being a medic, I thought it was a strange choice for a media family. In fact i thought it was a poncy name! But it isn't made up or spelt strangely so not as bad as some.

Dogs names - Ben or Max?!

differentID · 21/01/2010 21:07

galen? there was a character called Galen in th eBabylon5 universe, so lots of sci-fi connotations from here.

salvadory · 21/01/2010 21:08

It's also the name of a not v good pharmaceutical company, I wouldn't go there because of that

Totallyfloaty35 · 21/01/2010 21:11

Not actually pregnant yet,but better hope for another dd i think.DH and i have never agreed on a boys name and i dont think we ever will.
Seems to be a resounding no then to this one....oh well.
