And can we do a poll - who is and who isn't and what are the ages of your dcs?

Aged 7, 3 and 6 months. Not vaccinating.

Am going for it - DC is 5. Did wonder myself but I understand that eventually kids over 5 will be offered the vaccine too.

Yes, Your Are Being UnReasonable.

My DS is nearly 8 months and as soon as he is sent his letter he will get the shot.

This flu is putting very healthy children in the hospital.

There is no difference in the make up and testing of this shot over the seasonal flu shot. Next year's seasonal will probably have H1N1 Vacc in it.

There is no reason to not get the shot.

BooHooo · 26/01/2010 14:41

Of course there are many good reasons not to have the shot for individual children.

yanbu, not vaccinating mine for swine flu although generally i take all the vaccines that are recommended, apart from this one

I just don't know. It is so hard to decide.

Children nearly 4 and nearly 2.

4yo has had swine flu anyway so I am more certain I won't have him vaccinated. I am not sure what to do for my 2yo.

My brother (28 yrs) had it, and said he armed ached like buggery for about 3 days afterwards, and he didn't feel right for about a week. I guess that's the one reason I can think of for not giving it to DS.

The jab, that is, not the 'flu

NO way, DS 3.10 and DS 1.5 and a pregnant me. Never been asked to anyway.

Spidermama · 26/01/2010 14:53

I certainly won't be exposing myself (asthmatic) nor any of my children to the vaccine.

PMSL at Tee2072's assertion that 'there is no reason to not have the shot.'

Just not sure what to do! Don't want to inflict unnecessary pain on 17 month old but don't want him being very ill with real thing.

DS is 2.3 and had it last week. His arm was a little sore and swollen the next day but other than that, no side affects. He didn't cry (or even flinch actually) when he had it. A pregnant friend of mine had it and said it didn't hurt at all.

I saw the doctor about it and she said that the swine flu is putting otherwise healthy under-5s in the hospital or even worse. Just didn't seem worth the risk to me.

Report
PoppityPing · 26/01/2010 14:56

Me, DH, 3 and 5 yr old have had it as we are all in a 'vulnerable' group.

10yo hasn't been offered it yet. He will ave it once he is though.

The children were fine. DH was fine. My arm hurt like hell, and I was poorly for a week or so afterwards.

cleobear · 26/01/2010 15:00

DS is 3 and I am 18 weeks pregnant, have taken decision that neither of us will have vaccine - although this has caused arguements as DH wants us both to have it (for the reasons given by others).
I just have to go with gut feeling.

Congratulations, good call.

Two teens and a Y6 not being vaccinated here.

Dd is 3, ds is 11 months, both had the shot after much deliberation two weeks ago. Its a really difficult one to weigh up - we were more scared by the (potential) consequences of swine 'flu rather than side effects of the jab in the end. Good luck with the decision.

And Tee2027 with the little lecture is being misleading, in fact she's wrong and she's speculating, so I wouldn't worry about what she says.

DC (2.11 and 9mo) are due to have it on Thurs. I am pretty sure we will go ahead and give it to them -- on balance SF is more risky to them than possible adverse reaction to a jab.

Tough call. Go with what your gut feeling is. It's all about weighing up risks - slim chance of getting swine flu adn ti going terribly wrong, versus getting vaccine adn as yet unknown side effects.

NO ONE KNOWS THE ANSWER FOR YOU

Ok I am not achild obviously, I am 50, with underlyong health problems.

but on 4th November I caught Swine Flu, I had a temp of 40 for four days, had to take tamiflu, which made me hallucinate, and feel sick.

I devoloped a hacking cough that wouldnt go away, complete exhaustion that knocked me off my feet, I honestly found it too difficult to raise my arm.

This went on till 28th November (was suppose to be at MN Christmas Party .

Mid afternoon on the 28th, I started to develope pains in my chest. By 4 O'clock I was in agoney, so much that DH called a ambluance.

My lung had collasped and I had pneumonia, I was kept in hospital for 5 days, 3 1/2 on oxygen.

Apparently I was a very lucky lady that the lund actually collasped, because I had had pneumonia, for 10 days by then, the doctor at the hospital told me. ( I had seen a dr 5 days previously who told me my lungs were fine!).

\so please please, vaccinate your children, dont put them through what I went through.

My DSIL, has just had her two done, one was fine, one a bit rough for 3 days, she still says that it was the right thing to do.

yabu

there's a lot of misinformation and hearsay out there. Where have we all got our info ( and formed our ideas from? the telly and the newspapers at thestart -who have scared everyone IMO.I too thought it "untested" and was hesistating to get DS 4months done.

Swung the other way when I saw a oxbridge doctor chappie on bbc news one morning ( coupla weeks ago explaining) - yes it's a flu virus, yes it's a "mild" flu virus but one with a sting in the tail that makes it very nasty for those in vunerable groups -under5's and next group over 6o's. The vaccine if I recall what he said is not any different from your usual flu jab. This guy obviously knew what he was talking about in a balanced way. If anyone can find a link to him. I'd be grateful.

This and the advice of nurses at GP practice when ds went for his recent jabs has swung it back for me for him to have it. Just waiting for them to call us in.

Only "one" "healthy" child due to swine -it's been reported- has died in our area (westmids). One too many for my liking and I'm sure for that poor childs parents. My heart goes out to them and all the other families who have had people taken away because of this.
