To let my 9 year old become a latch key kid......

......as clearly all my friends are pedophiles and axe murderers according to the government and unless I pay to get them all vetted by the nanny state I will soon be breaking the law to ask my friend to pick DS2 up from school the one day a week I go to take my disabled mother out.
I shall give DS2 a key and tell him to walk home alone across 2 main roads, (better get him a reflective vest as dark nights are coming) and when he get in I shall tell him to cook the dinner and sweep the chimney!!!!!!

[DISCLAIMER PLEASE NOTE I HAVE NO SUCH INTENTION I AM JUST FED UP WITH THE WHOLE NANNY STATE]

LOL! I have learned to keep quiet on many of these types of thread as I am quite a lax liberal mother.

yip. if friend has him for more then two hours and she has any kind of perceived reward for doing so - which could be a meal together, a bottle of wine or reciprocal help, she will indeed be breaking the law.

Lol - loved your post and have informed my four year old he will shortly be doing the same - we dont have a chimney but I have arranged for some nice piecework for him to do

And clearly I will not be picking up children of any of my friends as DH and I are bound to sacrifice them as part of our satanic devil worship....

ATM I have a latch key 12yr old, 10yr old and 6 yr old. The original intention was to ask a neighbour to walk them home but clearly she isn't to be trusted

I think you are a disgrace, how do you know your friends are not all of the things you have mentioned? Have you run CRB checks? No I didn't think so! I absolutely agree that you should be paying tax on the rewards and also that ALL your friends and relatives should be OFSTED registered.

No one can be trusted, (unless you have a bit of paper from the government).

In fact I am sure everyone on her is just trying to find out where I live so you can come and kidnap my children

No informal arrangements between friends are not covered.But there was something in the news about 2 mums minding each other's kids and that was illegal so who knows!

I believe that this has, at least in part, come about as a result of the Soham murder case.

Although the LA and school screwed up over Huntley, correct me if I am wrong, but wasn't his equally evil partner CRB checked as a TA in the primary school which the victims attended?

Someone I know (via a friend) has a brother in law who was a scout leader and a gym instructor all CRB checked and so on who is doing 14 months for child abuse.

Ah yes that little bit of paper means soooooo much.

Having been CRB checked and having the nanny state give you a million checks cannot prescribe what might happen in the future.

The amount of bureacracy borne of a few people who didn't use a bit of common....YANBU. Even if you did run CRB checks on everyone you know, it's only valid on the date it was done, that's why they insist on you doing it all over again for every organisation you are involved with kids for.
