To think this is not good news

My mum has had pains in her side for some time. She has been for xray,MRI and liver scan. The MRI was on her spine.
The MRI results went to her doctor this morning,he rang her and said she has to go in tomorrow and quote " take someone for moral.support" with her.
Am I right to fear the worst?

That doesn’t sound good. I’m not too sure I’d want a doctor wording it in that way if I had to wait overnight to be seen.

Doctors do not say those things lightly. I don't know whether you should fear the worst but the news is not good.

I'm not a nurse or a doctor but my mum was called in for results and told to take someone with her. They didn't say for moral support, they just said take someone with you. She was told she has MS, the primary progressive type. It's a horrible illness but thankfully not fatal or life threatening. That was after an MRI of the spine and brain. Was it just spinal or brain and spinal she had done OP?

I don't think it sounds good either, I'm sorry.
Hand holding from the other side of the world for you - hope you can get some sleep, you can't change anything now, you can only be there for your mum tomorrow when you find out what the docs tell her. xx Thanks

The fact it was so quickly they got back to you and asked for her to have someone with her doesn’t sound positive, I’m very sorry to say.
My grandad had back problems for a while, blamed it on sciatica and finally had an MRI. They rang him back the next day and wanted him in ASAP. It was a tumour on his spine spread from prostate cancer.
but that was 2 years ago this month and he is still with us, and still goes to the pub in fact!
Good luck and please let us know Flowers

I really hope everything's OK, OP. I can understand her asking her sister to be there. She'll be as worried as you, and needs to focus on herself if the news is bad, rather than worrying about how upset you'd be.

I doubt that the news will be good as such, but this doesn't mean her condition is necessarily dire. Maybe she needs an operation or has a degenerative condition of the spine.

Flowers I know it's easy to say but try not to worry and hold on to the fact that whatever the news, you'll deal with it.

Sorry to hear. Please make sure you listen and take notes, ask questions. I appreciate and know that you can be consumed with emotion - What ever the outcome but you need to be to one there for you mum but also taking on board what is being said. And I know that's hard, I do, but it's important.
