AIBU?

To think if a carpet is pissed on it should be replaced?

Or at least professionally cleaned?

I'm taking an adult human here. Not a puppy or something.

It's been 'cleaned' by the pisser but I can still smell it.

It's an old carpet anyway but AIBU to want SOME money towards it being replaced or the pisser to pay for it to be professionally cleaned?

YANBU! And YANBU to expect this to be offered by the pisser. 😷

At the very least a carpet shampoo.

Professionally cleaned, yes. Or deep cleaned by the pisser. Replaced (especially if old and in need of replacing anyway), no.

However, I want to know the backstory...

Soda water helps with the smell in the meantime.

yes. they pay for it to be cleaned.

Ye Gods, this is grim.
Unless there's some medical/mental health reason for peeing on the carpet they need to pay.

YANBU. I’d cut them a bit of slack if it was a heavily pregnant woman who didn’t make it rather than an obnoxious drunk.

Isn't this the story of The Big Libowski?

It will have already soaked through the underlay, so I doubt professional cleaning would get rid of the smell.

Eh? No. Use a carpet cleaning machine and job done.

Why has a human pissed on a carpet though? I assume you don't have a carpet down in the loo....

Definitely a professional clean and YES money from the culprit whatever the reason.

Omg tell us what happened

I'm guessing someone blind drunk had an accident.

Yanbu though. I'd say full cost for cleaning or a contribution to replacement (not whole cost in that case though).

Professional clean but not a full replacement.

YANBU! That’s revolting Confused

Yes drunk adult.

I don't really want to get it cleaned as I planned on replacing after Christmas.

WIBU to get a quote for cleaning then ask for that amount and put it towards replacing it?

It absolutely REEKS.

Why has an adult pissed on the carpet OP?Confused- what is the context?

I think replacement is excessive but would want a professional clean done (by a legitimate company). Who paid depends on context really.

You can’t ask for a full replacement as they won’t be replacing like for like... it would be buying a brand new carpet to replace on old, worn one that you were planning to replace anyway.
You can definitely ask for a contribution though.

Think about this logically, rather than rage at a drunk.
If a pregnant/elderly/ disabled/ ill person had peed on the carpet, would you still want it replaced? Thoroughly cleaned, yes.

Random grim pissing in living/bed room/hall or dribbling pee on bathroom carpet?

Hahaha! Love this naming of the PISSER. Might be my new go to nick name for those that irritate me.

I don’t think I could live with this for a moment longer than necessary.
Can you get it replaced before Christmas instead?

It was a full bladder unloading on the landing. A very full bladder. Like a M² puddle.

Professional cleaning should be covered by the drunk pisser.

Wanting it replaced because you were going to replace it anyway is cheeky.
