AIBU?

To think this racist should have been kicked off this RyanAir flight?

I’m not going to repeat the language this passenger used here, but basically he refused to sit next to a black passenger resulting in her being moved and staff asking the man if he was OK once she was moved.

RyanAir have released a terse statement saying it’s been referred to Essex Police

WTF! Can't believe that the poor woman had to move and that the racist arsehole wasn't kicked off the flight.

RyanAir definitely have some explaining to do if this is what actually happened....

Lifeisabeach09 · 21/10/2018 10:54

WTF, Ryanair!
They should have ordered him off the plane. Racist scumbag!
I feel for Mrs Gayle but she handled herself great.

youarenotkiddingme · 21/10/2018 11:01

OMFG. I can not believe he was allowed to remain on the flight Shock

Massive well done for the man behind who intervened and stood up for the lady.

SgtFredColon · 21/10/2018 11:04

Absolutely shocking. And only one man said anything. I bet if it had been the other way around the black person would have been thrown off.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 21/10/2018 11:06

Good for the chap in the row behind who intervened and tried to stop the man's dreadful ranting.

flumposie · 21/10/2018 11:08

Disgusting. Ryanair are getting backlash on Twitter deservedly. Thank God for the passenger interventions as Cabin staff were useless.

OhDearGodLookAtThisMess · 21/10/2018 11:10

The video link I watched didn't show how it all started. Was it a row to do with the lady taking too long to let him pass to his seat? Or purely because he didn't want to sit near her because she was black? Not saying either is acceptable, of course. His language and attitude were beyond vile and he should have been moved - although I think it may have been that she asked to go.
I also suspect that this man may not be NT.

BewareOfDragons · 21/10/2018 11:15

I heard an interview on BBC5LIve re how it started, by the guy who filmed it. He said the man showed up, the woman was sitting quietly in her aisle seat, and he just started in on her! Loudly! The lady's daughter then came up the aisle and told him not to speak to her mother that way. The man then went past the woman, sat down, and started racially abusing her, and everyone just ignored it for the most part! He started filming...

GabsAlot · 21/10/2018 11:18

disgusting but doesnt surprise me about ryanair they really dont care they dont have morals

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 21/10/2018 11:18

Wow .

You are right , its HE who should have been removed or moved ., preferably to the Hold.
No need for it.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 21/10/2018 11:21

What!!!!!!!! Have i got this right. She was abused by some bigotted twat for the colour of her skin and made to move for "inconveniencing" him. Please for the love of God tell me I'm having a nightmare.
Asking if that racist fucker is okay.
What about her. He should have been kicked off and banned from flying for life. Sorry but no second chances. People are vulnerable in the air , and first time or nervous fliers certain ly don't need it!!!!!!
The deserve to be made a cunt out of. I'm not a flyer. If I was though there's no way I'd go with them.

legolammb · 21/10/2018 11:22

Urgh - horrible but not surprising. Well done to the guy who intervened.

On my last flight recently (BA), a middle-aged white guy kicked off because a young Asian lad was putting a bag in the overhead locker and the white guy was accusing him of trying to steal his stuff! Wish I'd said something

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 21/10/2018 11:22

I'd love to see arsehole put against a man.

LavendarGreen · 21/10/2018 11:22

Saw that on twitter yesterday. Dreadful. What a bastard.

I can't believe (some) people still behave like this towards non-white people in 2018!

It's almost always sub intelligent, badly educated people too. It's rarely intelligent people who are ugly racists.

What kind of eejit refuses to sit next to someone because they're black? Weird!

ForalltheSaints · 21/10/2018 11:26

Another reason not to fly Ryanair. Hope Essex police take action and the CPS prosecute.

Disappointed that no-one asked for the police to be called at the time.

Hope someone remembers to ask Mr O'Leary at his next press conference or interview about this.

AfterSchoolWorry · 21/10/2018 11:26

That is disgraceful. Only for that young guy behind I think the racist would haves hit her. He was lunging across the seats at her. Absolute prick. I hope he's found and charges are pressed.

DGRossetti · 21/10/2018 11:29

Is this Essex, Alabama ?

CryingOverSpiltMilk · 21/10/2018 11:30

That poor woman.

Why is it being referred to the police as an afterthought? He should have been escorted off there and then and police contacted immediately. If that wasn't possible, he should have been moved and security made to sit with him until detained in the UK, surely?

eurochick · 21/10/2018 11:32

That's dreadful! He should have been chucked off the flight. I hope the police find him and prosecute.

brizzledrizzle · 21/10/2018 11:33

Ryanair will know who he is, I hope that he's banned from the airline and that the police are dealing with him.

Celebelly · 21/10/2018 11:33

He should have been removed from the flight and the police called there and then. Surely they have a protocol for this kind of thing?

StoorieHoose · 21/10/2018 11:34

I’m dumbfounded that the attendant actually asked the racist twat if HE was okay after moving the poor woman!

SoupDragon · 21/10/2018 11:34

In the article, it says she asked to be moved.

Which doesn't excuse them not throwing the racist twat off the plane, obviously.

I'm not sure why they've referred it to Essex police - if it happened on the tarmac in Barcelona, is it Essex Police's jurisdiction?

StoorieHoose · 21/10/2018 11:36

It was clear the attendant wasn’t going to do anything so I don’t blame the woman for asking to be moved
