Sonething I was thinking about recently then on my FB feed up pops a very interesting article.
It's an excerpt from a book posted by BBC who are doing a series of features under the title "the health gap".
Basically a few studies over the years and a recent one shows it's still an issue.
It's shocking but not surprising if that makes sense?
Basically women (and non whites and poor), are more likely to be misdiagnosed as having a mh issue than have the correct physical condition diagnosed.
Basically women are STILL being "diagnosed" as "hysterical" rather than being referred to the correct specialists or receive the correct treatment for a physical condition.
I am not saying mental illnesses are very real, debilitating conditions (I suffer myself quite badly), but I also have personal and familial experiences and knowledge of several friends being misdiagnosed with MI when in fact they had a physical illness.
Or even just plain fobbed off.
Several studies apparently show you're up to 3x more likely to get referred to a specialist or get the correct diagnosis/treatment if you're a white, mc man.
Aibu to say this is outrageous and needs to be properly addressed?
