TV is rubbish this Christmas so we have been watching a film in the evening after DC have gone to bed. Trouble is I think we've run out of decent ones! Would love to know if you've seen any decent films recently. I generally enjoy most genre.

Hacksaw Ridge on Netflix, Dunkirk on DVD/Google Play, Captain Phillips on Netflix

IHaveBrilloHair · 28/12/2017 11:17

Bone Tomahawk, Handsome Devil, Holding the man, shepherds and Butchers, The Eichmann show, all on Netflix

I really enjoyed the sinner and mindhunter series on Netflix - whizzed through them both quickly.
Brooklyn is a lovely film on Netflix too.

PorklessPie · 28/12/2017 12:16

Safety not guaranteed.

beingabanana1 · 28/12/2017 12:18

Great thank you. I enjoyed hidden figures on Now and Arrival was quite good on Amazon Prime.

Florence Foster Jenkins is on Now

It’s bittersweet film I really enjoyed it

Agree Brooklyn is a really good film

KC225 · 28/12/2017 12:29

Weirdest Christmas film ever - not for children though as it could be a bit scary was Rare Exports a Finish film, so subtitled

LakieLady · 28/12/2017 12:32

This is timely. I'm thinking of taking out a month's trial of Netflix so I have plenty to watch while recovering from shoulder surgery in a couple of weeks' time.

Is "The Sinner" based on a Scandi-noir book? If so, I think I've read it.

Is there much British stuff on Netflix? I generally prefer UK/European tv (with a few notable exceptions like The Wire, The Sopranos, Mad Men).

TammySwansonTwo · 28/12/2017 12:34

Get into some TV series, they last longer and there's some brilliant stuff on Netflix at the moment...

Dramas:
Mindhunter
Manhunt: Unabomber (watching this now, its great)
Freaks and Geeks
Bates Motel
Sons of Anarchy
Narcos
Ozark
Dark and Bloodline are meant to be good, haven't seen it yet
(Not sure if The Shield is currently on there but it's the best series ever! Mad Men and Dexter are sometimes on there too)

Comedies
Arrested Developmemt
Peep Show
League Of Gentlemen

There's loads more, just can't think right now! Making A Murderer is fantastic if you haven't seen it, and I want to watch Wormwood which is the new Errol Morris doc series on there. They have lots of Louis Theroux stuff too.

TammySwansonTwo · 28/12/2017 12:35

Rare Exports is BRILLIANT!

SilverySurfer · 28/12/2017 14:46

My favourite on Amazon Prime is Lucifer, now on its third series, with Brit actor Tom Ellis in the title role. Feel good films I've recently enjoyed are The Intern and The Hundred-Foot Journey. Also enjoy The Grand Tour.

On Netflix I've enjoyed the series The Good Wife, The Crown, House of Cards, Designated Survivor, Last Tango in Halifax.

Indigo911 · 28/12/2017 14:55

What are your favourite genres?
Some good films on Netflix:
Passengers
In Bruges
The awakening
The purge
John wick
The 5th wave
Identity thief
The Martian
World war z
Everest
Drive
Harry Brown

IHaveBrilloHair · 28/12/2017 15:01

Tammy, I'm not interested in series, I prefer films or documentaries that I can get engrossed in for a couple of hours and they're over.
I'm assuming the Op asked for film recs for a reason.
Indigo, Harry Brown is brilliant, might watch that with Dd tomorrow.

IHaveBrilloHair · 28/12/2017 15:03

The Justin Fashanu documentary on Netflix is a good watch.

HelloFreedom · 28/12/2017 15:03

13th and Requiem for The American Dream. 2 amazing documentaries on Netflix. Not very festive but eye opening stuff.

missiondecision · 28/12/2017 15:04

Search of the wilder people. Quite amusing and easy to watch if like me you don’t enjoy gore or horror.

Boglin · 28/12/2017 15:05

The Circle and Hunt for the Wilderpeople (both netflix) were good.

footballmum · 28/12/2017 15:05

Heavier viewing:
