I actually remember fondly spending time in front of the tv as a child :D .

Bunnyhipsdontliegrl · 31/08/2017 14:15

And I am not being sarcastic.

BenLui · 31/08/2017 14:16

Why do you have guilt?

You're ill, you aren't neglectful.

Do you regularly play with your kids, take them to the park, take them in day trips?

If the answer is yes, then there's no need for guilt.

If the answer is no switch off the TV and do more stuff with them once you are well.

No need for guilt.

I've got countless memories of tv shows from when I was a kid, and so have my friends. Shared culture is a bonding experience. Standing in the garden, not so much.

Mrscropley · 31/08/2017 14:17

As a dm of several adult dc they do remember fondly the times we have had a good film and popcorn all piled onto the sofa!!
They also remember times I have been so ill with migraine they have cuddled me when really young while watching Disney films one after another.

It's not just about spending time and money away from home. .

Happyhappyveggie · 31/08/2017 14:17

So do I @bunny - watching kids summer TV 📺 Still hate the sanctimonious Facebook stuff Grin

BackieJerkhart · 31/08/2017 14:18

Actually tv was pretty much the best thing ever to me as a child. I loved nothing more than snuggling under a duvet in the sofa on a Saturday and watching a film or gladiators Grin I still watch some of my favourite childhood movies now as an adult. (Home alone anyone?)

JaneJeffer · 31/08/2017 14:18

Nonsense. I remember loads of great TV as a child, Charlie's Angels for one Grin

HarrietKettleWasHere · 31/08/2017 14:19

Well I remember watching The Little Bits on a Saturday morning before everyone else got up and I had the living room to myself Grin

Fond memories Smile

Happyhappyveggie · 31/08/2017 14:19

And yes @ben I normally take them to the park every day. Just feeling ill and stuff like that makes me fee worse

Well that's bollocks. I could work out why I got upset when Bruce died. Then realised it was because I used to watch the generation game with my DGPS, which are lovely memories within an otherwise shite childhood.

dudsville · 31/08/2017 14:20

Ha ha! My brother and I used to watch batman. My brother and Dad and I used to watch Saturday morning cartoons in our pajamas. I loved those moments. It's true I don't recall a lot of other tv.

OstentatiousWanking · 31/08/2017 14:21

Couldn't not could.

PurpleMinionMummy · 31/08/2017 14:21

Pfft. We did some great things last half term. On return to school the kids had to write about their half term. None of the great stuff was mentioned by my ds. Only the fact his mate came round and they played on the wii and achieved xyz in the game. So I beg to differ!

WhooooAmI24601 · 31/08/2017 14:23

Load of bollocks. I grew up in foster care so have few memories of a 'proper' happy childhood but I know I used to watch the Two Ronnies with my foster parents and howl like a little monkey at them.

It's perfectly fine for tv to be a part of your children's life. It isn't going to harm them if it's balanced with trips, family mealtimes and other happy memories. Just don't let them watch Peppa Pig because she's fucking odious.

Boulshired · 31/08/2017 14:23

I remember lots of tv from childhood, bagpus as a young child, my older brothers pretending that they were not watching basil brush. Tiswas, knight rider and my first ever Top of the pops, Boney M was number 1.

Cailleach666 · 31/08/2017 14:24

Some of my best memories of childhood are getting up on a Saturday morning and watching some of my favourite shows wearing my dressing gown.

Don't believe all these "inspirational quotes".

Nikephorus · 31/08/2017 14:24

I remember summer hols as a kid - watching Why Don't You & then going outside. Lots of cool memories attached to tv progs. Watched The Red Hand Gang recently & that brought back memories of my (now dead) sister. Loads of things like that. I've got memories of outside stuff too but it all sits in my head, not just the "perfect society-demands" scenarios.
Besides, if you have everything "perfect" then you don't appreciate it!

CaoNiMartacus · 31/08/2017 14:24

It's bollocks.

I remember my best day of TV. It was a Saturday night in the later 80s, and it consisted of Anne of Green Gables, then Gladiators, followed by Blind Date.

maxthemartian · 31/08/2017 14:24

Loads of happy tv memories! My primary school friend and I still fondly reminisce about Thundercats Grin

Gemini69 · 31/08/2017 14:27

I loved Crossroads.. I was 6 but i relished it Confused

weird I know...

MrsT2007 · 31/08/2017 14:28

Yup!
Thundercats
Willy Fog
Dogtanian

Happy happy memories. In fact I remember being properly annoyed when I got up one Saturday for my cartoon fix to find it was ALL news. Zeebrugge disaster. I was too young to understand but I remember being really annoyed there was no Dogtanian that morning!!

EmilyDickinson · 31/08/2017 14:29

That Facebook post really isn't true. I watched a lot of tv as a kid and whilst I think it's important for children to do other things too tv can provide happy memories of time spent as a family all watching and discussing the same show. I particularly remember watching Life on Earth, but also lots of children's shows.

It can also be quite important to watch the same shows as your peer group in order to feel part of conversations about it. Bake Off and Strictly are essential shows for my daughter to watch and discuss with her friends and Match of the Day for my son.

BackieJerkhart · 31/08/2017 14:30

I actually feel sorry for my DC. Saturday tv used to be awesome. They don't have that now.

Titanz · 31/08/2017 14:30

My favourite memories as a kid was watching Dragon Ball Z with my brothers.
