AIBU?

WIBU to shout at this girl?

Was driving along a busy road - 40mph limit was doing about 30 as trafficy.
Younger woman, 19 stepped out in the road with headphone in and glued to her phone and ran across the road.
I had to emergency stop to avoid hitting her and the car behind went smack into me. The other car saw her step out and weren't mad they said they of done the same and couldn't believe I didn't hit her.

I had my very young baby twins in the back of my car (who are fine we've been checked) but I told the girl how stupid she had been and how careless she was and lucky she didn't cause a worse accident.
I did raise my voice I was so angry and shook up and worried.

She said it was inappropriate for me to shout at her as she's only 19 and still a child.
I said if she classes herself as a child and can't take responsibility for her actions and acts so carelessly she shouldn't be out without a chaperone (I know that's not the case but she wanted to play the child card)

She then told me to fuck off and walked off, glued to her phone and plugged her headphones back in.

I'm only 23 so not like a much older woman yelling at a kid.

WIBU?

Ywnbu, I'd have probably said a lot worse than you did.

I hope you and your babies are ok Flowers

Hope you are ok and I would probably have hysterically shouted at her. My dd is 16 but a young adult not a child.

Her mind may be that of a child's but she's no child.

Glad you're ok though and no one was hurt. Smile

We're fine thank you a bit shakey but the babies didn't even notice except when the paramedic was poking them, which they found hilarious. They're only 4 months.

I was just so angry she didn't seem to think she did anything wrong or say sorry.
I wanted to bloody shake her!!!

YANBU
I'm surprised you didn't smack her across the face. I know I would have a big temptation to do so.
YABU to call her "girl" though. She's an adult woman. Young, but adult.

Yw definitely nbu.
How bloody selfish of her. If you had hit her, you would have the guilt and flashbacks all because of her gross stupidity. She needed telling!

Hope she thinks on what you've said and acts on it.

Glad you and your babies are ok. This has happened to us before and I was screaming at the person who caused it, tears and hysterics and all. What a rude, selfish, entitled twat she sounds!

I just wanted to get the point across to her and she wasn't listening so I yelled.

Yes, agreed and I'm sorry for calling her a girl, I wrote this in haste and didn't mean to cause offence.

Jesus, YWNBU. I was actually run over and received a very, very minor injury when I was 19. It was totally my fault, I actually dove away from the car which stopped me getting injured but made it look very dramatic and like I might have been very hurt. All I really cared about was reassuring the driver and apologising to him because I knew it was my fault and he was shocked and upset. At 19, she should have been capable of taking responsibility and apologising. I did at her age.

Silly trout.

Although, TBF, she was probably shocked, guilty and intimidated.

Well done for avoiding hitting her.

I think YWNBU to call her a girl either. She was certainly behaving like one.

At 19 she can vote, smoke, have a baby, get drunk and drive. Child my arse. I would have let her have it too.

I'd have gone nuclear at her if she said that to me.

This woman is why we need safety labels and signs taken down - natural selection at work.

Ywnbu to shout at her, she was lucky she didn't get killed, but it's not her fault the car went into the back of you, that was the other drivers fault for not leaving a big enough gap for potential emergency stops. I'm glad you and your dc's are ok.

I am glad you and the babes are ok op. I hope she reflects on her behaviour and feels terrible. Did she realise you had your children in the car?

Dontyoulovecalpol · 20/08/2016 15:21

It's awful that you had an accident but it was just an accident. People get absorbed in things and don't think for a second they'll cause a car crash. She was probably shocked, guilty, embarrassed and panicked so don't read anything at all into some garbled conversation

As for taking a picture and calling the police- wtf? How is that a police matter? What would they do? MN is
Bonkers sometimes

A child at 19? Goodness! I'd have asked her for her Mummy's phone number so I good have a chat about her lack of road safety awareness and poor manners.

One point though - the driver behind was at fault. He would have had no reason to be cross with you in any circumstances. He should have left a safe stopping distance between you.

The 19 year old is a fault and the person behind was at fault. You are the only innocent.

SHe WBVVVU

She's lucky she didn't get killed

The young generation are so self absorbed and so lacking in responsibility it's untrue (I am 200)

Glad you and the twins are ok
