AIBU?

To think we should go on a Cadbury Chocolate strike - until they put the recipe (and shape) back to how it was

We should go on a Cadburys Chocolate Strike :-)

Or, only buy supermarket own-brand chocolate from now on. (some of which is really good)

That'd teach them to mess about with the ingredients in our Cadburys chocolate. And I don't carewhat they try and fob us off with - the bars are a lot sweeter (different cheape sweetener used?) and they have lost their smoothness.
In other words, Cadburys tastes crap.

Anybody?

I know we are all saying its changed - for the worse, but talking about it won't solve anything. Whereas, if we talk with our purses.
Who knows. Hmm

Hasn't this been a thing for about a year or so now?

Has it? I know I automatically buy Cadburys every Christmas - old habits die hard.
But this Christmas, I'm only going to buy own-brand chocolate.

I ended up chucking a lot out last year. A first! Shock So that goes to show how bad it's got.

There appears to be two of these threads this morning. Had anything in possible prompted the sudden Kraft hate? Totally agree btw :p

They did extensive UK taste tests and people preferred the new recipe and shape.

The big public boycott was a fail, their figures showed that people still buy it in the same quantities that they did before.

Taking into account both of those facts, you'll be hard pressed to get them to change this now. They'll probably equate the loss of sales down to the chocolate buttons fiasco.

I've been avoiding it since the whole pork in the chocolate incident, which was never fully explained to my satisfaction: www.theguardian.com/business/2014/may/28/pork-in-cadburys-malaysian-chocolate-recalled-after-dna-traces-found

I'd like to know who these people are! And how extensive the tests really were.

Telling people they should like something usually works.
But not this time.

That was a couple of years ago. People in this country seem to have more backbone lately (with regard to lots of things).

May I take the opportunity to suggest switching to an ethical, fairtrade chocolate if you're boycotting Cadbury? ??

TheSpottedZebra · 10/11/2014 10:32

We'll probably their results showed that any loss in sales would be more than offset by the increased profitability from remaining sales/new customers/NPD.

I think I've been boycotting without noticing, as it is manky waxy shite. I like Lidl and Aldi chocolate now.

It's like bendy plasticine now, awful.
We used to have the best chocolate in the world and now it's the shittest.
XH always buys the DCs large tins (plakky boxes) of Roses or Celebrations and there are always a load left when we re-find the box - usually at Easter...

Lidl and Aldi chocolates really good.
I also buy a fair bit of fairtrade chocolate.

I havent bought cadburys for at least a year (probably a lot longer) its disgusting now.

although I should probably confess that I sent dp out for chocolate and rice crispies the other night and he came back with dairy milk, in my defense im 21 weeks pregnant and decided at 10pm I needed rice crispy cakes, since he willingly went to the shop in the rain I ate it without complaining but it did reinforce my opinion that it is now sickly crap.

I might have considered it, if they hadn't brought out their Marvelous Creations (popping) Grin

Tbh I had noticed it tasted different, but thought it was just me.

They changed it in NZ, there was an almighty backlash, they changed it back :)

Report
lougle · 10/11/2014 10:40

They said it was the size of the grinders that makes it taste different, didn't they?

Really?

Seems like you can mess around with a lot of things in this world, but you DON'T mess around with Chocolate Grin

Lindt now do a bar of chocolate- in our local shop they are 2 for £1.20! They are utterly melt in the mouth and Cadburys just can't compare.

For regular dark but not too dark chocolate, Lidl is good.

I'm with you.

Although I probably can contribute the horrid taste of cadburys to about 50% of my current weight loss so I can't hate them that much really...

I already boycott nestle and not just because of the smarties issue so most of my chocolate consumption is fairtrade stuff. And the fact it's more expensive helps the waist line too no doubt!

Bar of Cadburys on a Friday and wine used to be a treat.
Now it's just the Wine and some Cake and some more wine
