need some perspective before i kick off:

we have 2 DC.. DH's family ( MIL, Fil & his sister and her DD) life several hours away.

DH invited sister, her Dd and Mi & Fil over for xmas. Sil is lovely as is her DD and Fil. Mil is hard work (understatement).

anyways, DH just booked himself on a flight to cyprus on his own to have some 'time off'. in the meantime will have to play host to his family. my parents are away this xmas, so cannot join them.

i am livid. should also mention that we have not been on a holiday for 5 years as it is too costy for the 4 of us. this only adds to the insult.

wwyd... i am raging and cannot think clearly. or Aibu and should let him go and just make the bedt of it.
someone calm me down,please

YANBU. This is not just disrespectful to you but is very uncaring to his parents and family.

I know it is not mature but I would probably take great delight in winding up MIL and releasing her onto him Grin

He's invited his family, then booked a holiday for himself while they are there? Wtf?

YANBU I would go psycho of DH ever booked himself a 'break' without discussing it (especially if you are too skint for family holidays) and that would be without hosting his family!

Am I right in reading this as his family are coming to yours at Christmas but he won't be there because he's spending Christmas in Cyprus? Or is his trip unconnected to Christmas?

he is eccentric at the best if times

Thats totally inacceptable!
Cancel his family coming and spend the time wiith your children..NO WAY should you have to look after them all whilst he was on his 'selfish arsehole' time away.

Cerealqueen · 22/12/2012 23:17

cancel arrangements, if he won't be there why should you host on your own, the fucker.

He invited his family over for Christmas, but is taking himself off on a lovely holiday? Good god!

Report
jelliebelly · 22/12/2012 23:18

YANBU have I got this right? He is off to Cyprus for a holiday leaving his entire family at home for Christmas? Regardless of whether his family are coming over or not why on earth does he not want to spend Christmas with his wife and children?

I love the 'his family' 'your family' shite - aseeing asthey are all family of the children

I presume OP, you will host christmas, for your children to see their grandparents (who havent planned for anything else) then stiove your DHs head in with a blunt instrument.

Cancel his family coming and spend the time wiith your children yes of course, taht is the right thing to do - stop children seeing their grandparents.

AgentZigzag · 22/12/2012 23:20

Agree you need to cancel.

Very odd way of behaving.

'Eccentric'? I can think of some maybe less polite ways of putting what he is.

If this is him normally, why haven't you left him before now?

kaz1119 · 22/12/2012 23:20

as i said -he is 'different'.

YANBU He 's being a selfish wanker.

Report
Pandemoniaa · 22/12/2012 23:21

Wouldn't his family find it totally bizarre to get to your house for Christmas - to which HE invited them - only to discover he's gone missing?

Report
InExitCelsisDeo · 22/12/2012 23:21

Either you are taking the piss, or your DH is.

He invited his family to spend Christmas with you and then booked himself a holiday?

And you are married to him because.........?
