Those poor children at Conneticut school sad They mustve been absolutely petrified. When will the USA learn from these horrific shootings and out a ban on guns

Witchety Fri 14-Dec-12 19:31:35

Quite simply, they won't

And if they did.... Look at china... Knife attack in school, 22 children injured

AntsMarching Fri 14-Dec-12 19:32:13

Really? It's in the US Constitution, the right to bear arms. And it's a right that most Americans fiercely protect.

Do you think the people who actually commit these crimes would care if guns were banned?

Guns are banned here but there are still shootings,

catgirl1976geesealaying Fri 14-Dec-12 19:32:31

No. They won't sad

thebody Fri 14-Dec-12 19:32:47

Crying at this news.. Remember Dunblane? Just awful.

Think America needs to look at its obsession with guns.

sannaville Fri 14-Dec-12 19:33:54

i realise there are still shootings in the UK but not as many as in the UK, i understand the USA right to protect but when these weapons fall into the wrong hands it sadly ends in fatalities

chrismissymoomoomee Fri 14-Dec-12 19:34:54

They won't, but to be honest if someone really wanted to do that then they would find a way to get a gun anyway, I don't think its particularly to do with the ease of having a gun in those circumstances.

The whole story is sickening and so very sad sad

MurderOfGoths Fri 14-Dec-12 19:35:55

They won't. They should. But they won't. Fucking idiots sad

sannaville Fri 14-Dec-12 19:37:36

Agreed murder . I feel so sorry for the families that dont have their children home - what they must be feeling now sad

HairyGrotter Fri 14-Dec-12 19:37:52

They won't.

It's horrendous, utterly heartbreaking, the poor families affected by this horror.

We need to address the reasons WHY people do this, we also have to remember that the population of the USA in comparison to the UK is hugely different, it's unfair to compare the two countries.

MrsBW Fri 14-Dec-12 19:37:55

Americans are funny when it ones to their constitution... Some things can't be changed, some can... Apparently.

But increasing gun control will do the square root of fuck all to stop these incidents unfortunately. Ask Raoul Moat.

An absolute tragedy.

Itsjustmeanon Fri 14-Dec-12 19:40:24

I also think guns should be banned, but I'm not an American citizen and have no say on the matter. I've read that there are more guns than people and I don't know how they''d collect all the guns, if there was a change in the law. I just don't see it happening.

Gun crime in the UK is minuscule compared to the US.

TheMysteryCat Fri 14-Dec-12 19:40:41

Uk gun crime is nothing like the level in the us. Watch Bowling for Columbine for some sense of scale.

I don't they will ban guns, but they may licence assault weapons differently.

There's a whole lot else that needs to change in social terms as well.

sannaville Fri 14-Dec-12 19:41:40

Maybe they need to work on a blood test that tests for complete total pyschopaths. Whilst my Xmas this year may be a small non expensive affair at least I have my children safely with me which is all that counts when you hear stories like this

GrimmaTheNome Fri 14-Dec-12 19:42:57

>And if they did.... Look at china... Knife attack in school, 22 children injured
yes - injured not killed.

To answer the OPs question - about the same time hell freezes over sad

Guns should be nigh on impossible for an average person to buy. Your average citizen does not need a gun. Awful.

Witchety Fri 14-Dec-12 19:46:58

No blood test can predict this kind of thing... People just snap

sannaville Fri 14-Dec-12 19:46:59

agree with chickens totally.
Also yes peole may turn to knife crime but you can run from a knife - you have little chance against a bullet

AllSnowballsAndNoKnickers Fri 14-Dec-12 19:48:42

Can you detect psychopathic tendencies via blood test?

TeeElfOnTeeShelf Fri 14-Dec-12 19:49:13

The Right To Bear Arms has nothing to do with private gun ownership and any asshole with $100 being allowed to buy a gun. It has to do with the right to form a Militia.

But the US will never ban guns. They just won't.

I'm from there. I know these people. They'd rather people kill each other than be restricted in what they consider their 'rights'.

I grew up 20 miles south of Newtown CT.

Cozy9 Fri 14-Dec-12 19:49:18

There are already hundreds of millions of guns in America. What good would banning them do? You'd just make criminals out of a hell of a lot of currently law-abiding people.

ImAlpharius Fri 14-Dec-12 19:50:53

This comes days after Michagican passed a bill to allow concealed guns in schools, churches and stadiums. So sad. I wish the gun laws and culture would change but I doubt it. sad

HollyBerryBush Fri 14-Dec-12 19:51:28

Maybe they need to work on a blood test that tests for complete total pyschopaths

hmm

sannaville Fri 14-Dec-12 19:52:21

Not yet Snowballs but it is wishful thinking

StinkyWicket Fri 14-Dec-12 19:52:25

They won't as it is part of the Constitution.

But I wish they would. It makes my heart hurt with so many dead every year from violent crime (not just guns).
