i am watching a programme on itv1 about the 9/11 attacks and it still sends shivers down my spine.

Been flicking at it every so often. Saw peole falling/jumping fromt he towers and it is just so awfu. They are currently showing the towers collapsing - shocking. Unbelieveable almost isn't it, even now?

Watching it now and its still dreadful the story from the firemans point of view yesterday was haunting those scenes of the people falling from the towers is just so awful

I'm watching too - the jumpers still shock me, as though I've never seen the footage before.

My (now late) father was in NY that day - miles away as it turned out. I was watching from home, just pregnant with DC4 and beside myself.

i was watching a programme the other day about the children who had lost parents in the attacks and how on each anniversary they find it so hard to watch the repeated footage which is shown again and again.

i think it's time we moved on now and of course remember it but stop re-showing the attacks for days on end, just so the families and children can get on with their lives and grief privately now.

It is still really awful and shocking and all, but I do find myself wondering why I have to watch footage of people jumping from the windows every year. I'm sure the date is etched on everyone's mind, and as you all say, no-one will ever forget it, but do we have to have all the programmes every single year?

I'm watching it as well. I remember the feeling of shock when it happened. Watched a programme the other night about the children who lost parents on 9/11 and they all said they hated these programmes as they were watching their parents being killed over & over again. Yet we watch with a sense of macabre fascination. RIP.

I wasn't affected by it at the time (being 13, and not really caring about anything outside of my life), but now I can't watch the footage without crying...no matter how many times you see it, it's just so fantastic (in the unbelievable sense). :(

I was in Boston where the planes had left from when it happened.
We watched the 2nd tower fall 'live' on TV .

I am dreading this 10 year anniversary because there will be all these documentaries about it around and I just don't want to see it again.

My brother lost a colleague who worked in the same office as him for 10 years on one of the planes.

I cannot image what the bereaved families have gone through and are still living with every day.

It just takes me back to that day - I watched it on a huge tv in London with some Americans we were supposed to be having a meeting with. I then stayed up all night trying to contact friends in New York and finally got emails the following day. I went over to NY a couple of months later but couldn't face going to see Ground Zero even though it was where my old office was.

That's the trouble when there is so MUCH footage. It's unbelievable really that we saw it in real time, the plane heading towards the tower, the attempted escapes, the collapse etc. And afterwards, real conversations on mobiles from doomed passengers, people trapped. I can't think of another disaster like it and we will never get away from it.

I suppose there will be more programs on than 'normal' because it was 10 years ago.

But like WWII (which also has stacks of telly devoted to it) it's something we shouldn't be forgetting.

Not nice to watch or remember, but if you want to set it aside for yourself and move on, then turn over.

I'm not suggesting that anyone forgets it agentzigzag, I just don't think we need such graphic footage on our TV screens every single year (and it's not just this year, it's been every year since 2001). I don't agree that we need to see people jumping to their deaths, or to listen to intimate phone calls from the people in the WTC/om the planes to their relatives in order to remember what happened. It's voyeuristic. There are other ways in which the event could be commemorated or shown on TV more appropriately. IMO.

But what if the families of the people in those phonecalls and footage want them to be shown as many times as program makers request to use them midnight?

Not for voyeristic reasons (obviously) but so the world can see the pain and distress both they and their dead relatives had to endure because of some fanatical people decided to murder them in such a public way.

They shouldn't be brushed under the carpet as voyerism, they're documentary evidence of what forgetting the dark side of human nature can result in.

I still can't believe it - it makes it more 'real' because so much was caught live on tv. It still shocks me to the core whenever it is mentioned. We must nece forget. X
