to think it's perfecty acceptable to have a zombie apocalypse survival plan?

My friends think I'm weird. Me and my husband have had long conversations talking about what we'd do if Z-day ever came. Admittedly we're both big horror film geeks (which could be seen as a bit weird to be fair).

Does anyone else do this or is it just us?

It's not only perfectly acceptable, I think it should be compulsory.

I still do a nuclear bomb/flu pandemic/dirty bomb 'run through' in my mind. Always have done, since I was a teenager growing up in the late seventies/early eighties.

Sadly I must admit to having eaten some of the biscuits and chocolate I was storing. BlushI will have to eat either the dog or one of the children, if it comes to it.

YANBU I think it's normal and sensible.
I regularly revise my zombie apocalypse plans as any organised, prepared mother should ;)

Personally I think zombies are far more plausible than vampires or werewolves. If you go down the "genetic experimentation" route anyway. Although it's a fair point.

Well, the CDC have done one - it's only sensible for everyone else to Be Prepared too.

@AuntiePickleBottom - We have an allotment opposite our block of flats. We've considered the possibility of some sort or system of pulleys and ropes to get into it. It's securely fenced off so we could have access to fresh food. Weapons-wise I'd go for a melee approach generally, guns are too noisy though useful if you're in a tight spot. Having said that, living in the UK makes acquiring said guns a bit tricky...but then I do live in South East London so I doubt it would be too hard if it came down to it.

I just think zombies are more likely that's all. But I guess a lot of the same rules would apply survival wise. Are we talking about vamps and lycans where all the legends are true (ie crucifixes etc) or more of a Blade universe? (Is well aware I sound like a complete geek).

Ah, the Oh fuck rucksack.
My first ever thread on MN which I lurked on but never took part.
I still haven't packed mine but have been a member of MN ever since.
You people know what you're talking about, and it's planned till the last detail.
I am prepared. (ish).

I'd hazard a guess that decomposition of the brain would probably take away most of their reasoning skills. The only have their base instincts. Working out locks etc may be beyond them. Well that's what helps me sleep at night anyway Grin

No, no, no, Scarlet, it's fine, if anything, pointing out that it's clearly ME that's not with the programme here.....

I'd say a machete is pretty essential. Handy survival tools and good weapons for "removing the head or destroying the brain".

The main variable though is not knowing whether they'd be old skool Romero type zombies or more modern 28 days later type zombies.

Two pick-axes are ALWAYS better than one.

I know we have a big boat planned, HMS Mumsnet and the we're going to Sark.
Where's SarahStratton when you need her?

I have no plan but my 19year old DS does, and I believe we are all included in his survival strategy. Now as for the Oh Fuck rucksack.... I may need to get packing.

YABU!

I have a copy of The Zombie Survival Guide in the 'non fiction' section of the bookshelf. And eagerly anticipating 'World War Z' coming out because it's always good to have new visual frames of reference.

Best form of transport to survive Z-day: bicycle.

Best weapon: the crescent moon spade (shaolin monk weaponry) - long stick so you don't have to get too close, perfect for jabbing, and with a nice wide spade-like edge to get them in the brain via the bridge of the nose.

DP thinks I'm crazy :( But when they come, it'll be us and DS who survive. That's all I'm saying ... if vampires/werewolves turn out to exist I shall simply offer myself up as a convert.

Yep, I'm crazy. I understand that.
