would you call someone a cunt to their face

That's it really. Some posters seem happy to bandy around the term quite happily on here but I suspect they are all talk with very little trousers IYSWIM. There are others who I am very certain could call a fanny a vagina.
So AIBU in thinking people are vey happy to type the word but out there in the real world face to face with another human being they wouldn't have the front/arrogance/nastiness to do it?

My posting style is exactly like my real life style, so yes.

No, the swearing on mumsnet isn't hip and liberating. It makes you sound like a poorly educated 14 year old having a strop.

What Reality said. Even though I'm quite shy and polite irl, if riled enough...

no i would never in a million years use that expression and if someone used it to me i would assume they were very poorly educated and lacking in social skills

Yeah I'd use it in RL, and have done.

I get much more upset by actions than words.

I personally hate the word and wouldn't use it. I actyually prefer those who admit they would use it IRL and on MN because at least they are honest.....however I don't think that's true of all posters.

Never use it here or anywhere

Cunt is a favorite word of mine, and I have no qualms about calling anyone or anything a cunt if they deserve it. As for the swearing=thick argument, everyone I know swears and they are far from thick or badly educated. In fact, the upper classes probably swear just as much as the thick oiks from sink estates, they just do it with more finesse...

But then what your op is doing is deciding what words are 'big and clever' and which are not.

I think the first time I used cunt on here was in responding to someone who was trying to tell me that 'fucktard' is desperately clever and witty.

It is a movable feast. I would use it in rl but have only done so when faced with someone who thinks that their idea of what is acceptable to use in front of me is more important than how I feel about their using retard or mong.

And as always I am with Billy Connolly " I know loads of words. I just happen to like fuck'

Swearing as part of a wide vocabulary can be very entertaining.

Only once - to someone who absolutely deserved it. And I have a degree so not poorly educated.

I post pretty much how speak, so, yes, I would call someone a cunt to their face.

I actually once called a senior manager at my old company a wanker. It was over the phone, but same thing. I also put the phone down on him.

BTW I have 2 degrees. So so much for the uneducated theory of cursing.

And what Reality said!

i use the word if i think it is appropriate

no do not use it as much in rl but then again i am tending to discuss different things with family, my ds, friends so the need to use the word does not come up as often

Jazzicatz · 24/06/2011 08:25

I have a PhD and use the word!

Callisto I find the upper classes tend to swear more for emphasis than insult, but can be terribly creative when they do so Grin

mind you I have only once called someone a cunt on here, and he/she was one. I am normally dead polite.

I am alot more aggressive and less reasonale in RL. I don't tend to leave things unchallenged. On here i try to get the person to think about things, if i know that it is pointless (because they are a cunt) to try to do that in RL, i don't bother, i make sure that they shut the fuck up around me on some subjects.

And I am very sympathetic to someone who just finds swearing difficult. I can understand just not liking it or finding it hard to deal with. Very sympathetic to that and have ceased swearing on a thread if I thought someone was finding it genuinely difficult - just good manners really.

But people who think that not swearing makes them superior are dull and usually pretty pompous. And sneery 'oh you are just sounding thick' makes me doubt the intelligence of the poster tbh.

Having said that I don't tend to engage in competitive swearing threads because they are always repetitive and lack any point really

not in real life no.

but then i also wouldn't call a fanny a vagina because it isn't. a fanny is a vulva and a vagina is a vagina.

My language isn't great (despite all my education Grin) but I would never swear directly AT anyone, i.e. "you are a X". as I don't like that kind of aggression. Doesn't mean I don't think it though.
