Parking at Charing Cross Hospital

IsolaPribby · 06/07/2021 06:24

My elderly mother is about to be admitted to Charing Cross Hospital. Please can someone tell me about parking at the hospital? I will be coming up from the South Coast, so wanted to see if it's feasible to drive up and park when I come to visit.
Thanks in advance.

There are a very limited number of pay and display parking spaces at the hospital and a few in the roads opposite the hospital entrance. All quite expensive. The traffic around there is often horrendous. I’d take the train and then the Tube to Hammersmith.

isitjustlockdown · 06/07/2021 06:39

There is very limited parking available, and it's first come first served.

There are some private/council/shopping car parks near that could be an alternative option. Have a look on the council website (Hammersmith and Fulham council), which has a car park section.

IsolaPribby · 06/07/2021 07:18

Thank you both.

I haven't been able to find any local car parks. It looks like public transport will be the best option.

You could park in Westfield shopping centre then get the 220 bus from Wood Lane ( by shopping centre) or get Hammersmith and city line Wood Lane station to Hammersmith then a 10 minute walk up Fulham palace road

sashagabadon · 06/07/2021 07:34

Or park at Hammersmith Hospital and get the 72 bus to Hammersmith bus garage then walk 10 mins up Fulham palace road. I’d do that I think

LizziesTwin · 06/07/2021 07:40

There’s a car park in Hammersmith called Kings Mall car park, it’s behind the shopping centre and would probably add 10 minutes to the walk from Hammersmith tube station. All the on street parking has gone up in price in Hammersmith & Fulham and it’s really expensive now.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 06/07/2021 07:45

There is on street parking in any residents bay. You can always find a space if you go round often enough. It needs the RingGo app so set that up before you travel.

How long are you planning to stay for? You can look on the council website and it will tell you which bays are two hours, four hours or all day, and will also tell you the charges. They recently put them up to I think £4 or £5 an hour depending on your car type. But it’s all online.

Good luck and I hope you have a lovely visit and your mum is better soon x

Try using the Just Park app if you absolutely are going to drive.

DH used to have a lot of hospital treatment in central London and I found it v helpful for finding random parking places in driveways nearby rather than extortionate street or NCP car parks.

AtillatheHun · 06/07/2021 07:49

Oh crikey that’s a difficult journey and parking. Presumably you’ll come A3 then down Putney High st? I can’t think of any good parking on the way but if you go just past the hospital Hammersmith Broadway, there’s parking under the flyover next to the church- for goodness sake do not leave anything in the car if parking there. On street parking will be a total game of luck unless you do some advance research and booking and see if you can rent a private driveway? Actually that’s probably your best option.

SurreyMumOfOne · 06/07/2021 07:58

How long are you looking to park for? If not long then I'd do as pp said to try and get close to the hospital.

I don't know about charges or opening hours but there's parking available in the Putney Exchange shopping centre which would save driving the snarled up section across Putney Bridge. Then just jump on a 220 bus which can use the bus lanes along Fulham Palace Road. I'd do that over the King's Mall or Westfield car parks coming from the South.

If you're going to be visiting for whole days, there's some unrestricted parking when you first turn into Riverside Drive from the A316, and then can get a bus along to Hammersmith from there. I think also around Pumping Station Road. It's a couple of years since I've done it so do check online first. That's the closest free street parking I can think of.

And don't forget Hammersmith Bridge is closed!

Hohofortherobbers · 06/07/2021 08:04

Have you tried the just park app? Look for parking on a convenient tube ride away, it's usually hotel car parks and much cheaper than ncps and pay display.

AnnaMagnani · 06/07/2021 08:10

With Justpark we got: back of supermarkets, church carparks, random house with a driveway, businesses with a small forecourt - allsorts.

It was fantastic and loads cheaper than regular parking.

SurreyMumOfOne · 06/07/2021 08:39

It does sound like Just Park is a good option but to build on my earlier post in case you do want free parking. I'm pretty sure you can park around Putney Heath for free which is just off the A3, so more en route from the A3 than my earlier suggestion which would be en route for M3/A316. Form Putney Heath it's then one or two easy buses to the hospital.

endofthelinefinally · 06/07/2021 08:52

Yes, I agree that finding a just park location a few miles out, then getting a bus/tube would be cheaper and far less stressful. Traffic around Hammersmith will be a nightmare.

IsolaPribby · 06/07/2021 10:25

Thanks all. My other option is to just park where I will be staying overnight in Ealing, and get the tube from there.

I just thought knowing what the parking options were would be handy if I needed to get there in a hurry.

Thought you were coming up from the south coast 🤦‍♀️.

If you are starting out from Ealing, don't drive it.

endofthelinefinally · 06/07/2021 10:43

If you are in a hurry take the tube!

Rillington · 06/07/2021 11:40

Are you allowed in the hospital? Ours are still not allowing visitors.

AtillatheHun · 06/07/2021 15:46

Putney Heath parking is going to be full of tennis people this week I imagine?

Hamnet · 06/07/2021 19:32

Definitely get the Tube from Ealing. Super easy and way better than driving anywhere near the Fulham Palace Road.

I live on the South Coast, but will probably stay over at my Mums flat in Ealing. Wanted to know the options if there is an emergency, and I need to be there quickly.

Check out google maps or TFL. I am certain that tube will be much quicker than driving in any circumstances.

SurreyMumOfOne · 06/07/2021 21:55

If you need to be there in a hurry, I'd suggest a taxi from Ealing. The last thing you'll need is the stress and time wasted trying to find parking.

Hope it all goes ok.
