Why haven’t you had the vaccine?

TheChosenTwo · 30/06/2021 19:46

So, this is not in any way intended to be a goady thread. I was reading about the statistics of how many people have now had one and two doses and was curious to see what the number will rise to before everyone that’s been offered it wants to have it.
So, out of pure noseiness, if you haven’t had the vaccine, why haven’t you?
Just to add my own answer to this - a member of my family has refused as they don’t trust the long term effects. Fair enough, I totally respect their decision, it’s not mine to make. Is everyone else who hasn’t had it feeling the same? Or is there another reason?
In 5 years time might you feel better if those that have had it aren’t showing a swathe of the same side effects? Longer than that? Are you planning on having it in the future or is it a total no from you?
As I said, not intending to cause any drama and I really am just asking because I’m curious as to what percentage of the population will end up being vaccinated!

I'll get the popcorn 🍿

TheChosenTwo · 30/06/2021 19:54

Oh @Justgettingbye - I really hope that people can just reply to a thread without the need for any of that!!
If people don’t like it or feel rubbed up the wrong way by it I’m hoping people just avoid it.

But is there popcorn?

titchy · 30/06/2021 20:01

Seriously OP just why? There are dozens and dozens of threads discussing exactly this. What do you think this one is going to tell you that's any different?

TheChosenTwo · 30/06/2021 20:03

Look, to be honest, you can interpret it how you like! If you’re looking for a bunfight feel free to start kicking off but in the meantime I’m just wondering how close to 100% we’re going to get.

OP posts:
TheChosenTwo · 30/06/2021 20:04

Well @titchy - because I obviously haven’t seen one and I hadn’t read what the predicted statistics were going to be overall either!
Obviously this isn’t going to give me the answer either but I’m just wondering if we are ever likely to get much higher than we are now.

Hysterical that you can’t post about this without criticism @TheChosenTwo

Why can’t people just hide the thread if they don’t like it?!

walkoflifewoohoo · 30/06/2021 20:09

Meh, someone will bite 🍿

So why didn't you start a thread by asking what proportion of the adult population vaccinated do others think we'll get to? Why ask 'why haven't you had a jab' which won't answer your question at all?!

My guesstimate is a fraction over 91% first jabs and 88% both jabs for what it's worth.

TheSlayer · 30/06/2021 20:14

I've had it, but respect others' choices as none of my business really.

Has anyone else had short periods since theirs? I'm hoping it's a side effect and not the perimenopause as I would like another baby at some point.

SummerHouse · 30/06/2021 20:16

I think people don't trust it and they think it's not been tested enough, or they are scared it will make them ill, give them a blood clot or microchip them.

TDogsInHats · 30/06/2021 20:16

Periods being affected is a noted side effect of the vaccine (yellow card reporting)

This is the first one I've seen which asks what the cut-off point is, for the people who are waiting for long-term side effects. I'm interested to know the answer to that. I mean, what if you wait five years and then get jabbed, and then six years in, all our heads fall off? Grin
porkincider · 30/06/2021 20:17

theslayer I had it about 3 weeks ago, came on my period as usual about a week later and I’m still on my period now. Day 15 for me now 😭. I normally have very regular periods lasting 4-5 days, I’m 36 and have never, ever had a period like this. It’s really weird and irritating that anyone who mentions it is told that it’s just because you’re noticing it because it’s an apparent side effect but actually it’s all in your head Confused

TDogsInHats · 30/06/2021 20:22

OP a member of my family has said they won't take the vaccine because they are concerned that nothing is known of the long term effects. Plus big pharma are making a fortune from it (even though Astra Zeneca is produced at cost, not for profit, their share price has increased the value of the company)
I was disappointed in this explanation.
We can say, their body their choice, but it's really not that simple. We all need as many people vaccinated to get to herd immunity, after all not everyone can have the jab.

kowari · 30/06/2021 20:24

I'm anxious about it, the vaccine, I'm fine with needles, blood tests. I don't take medications, I'm anxious about putting things in my body, last time was paracetamol when I had covid in March 2020. I've likely had Covid again asymptomatically as I had positive antibodies September 2020 and again this June. I'm low risk for Covid and not worried about having it again. So it's partly 'better the devil you know'.

qualitygirl · 30/06/2021 20:28

It's a no from me...why...because if I'm honest I'm scared (yes scared!) of how I will react so I'm willing to continue protecting myself from covid as I have been (mask, sanitising, minimising contact etc) and not take the vaccine for now.

Pinkallium · 30/06/2021 20:29

I’ve had the vaccine but don’t show up in the official NHS numbers, keep being sent reminder letters etc. I had mine as part of a clinical trial many months ago. I get regular updates from the trial team saying they are working with the NHS to try and update records, set up vaccine passports will all be sorted soon etc and please don’t get an NHS vaccine. I think there must be a lot of us in this position so I wonder what difference we collectively make to the overall statistics.

TheChosenTwo · 30/06/2021 20:30

@TDogsInHats I hadn’t heard anything about periods, didn’t know about that.
I can see how that might make women more cautious.

Thefaceofboe · 30/06/2021 20:30

These threads are so tedious...

But I’ll go, I haven’t had it yet as I’m pregnant. Will be having it when the baby is born in September.

kowari · 30/06/2021 20:33

I've seen people at work become much more unwell from the vaccine than I was from covid, as in in bed level of unwell. I'm younger than them and have read that younger people and people who have had covid have worse side effects.

HappyCamperT5 · 30/06/2021 20:34

Because I'd rather take my chances with convid...

littlejalapeno · 30/06/2021 20:35

I’ll I’ll bite. I’ve been trying to get pregnant and all the stuff about periods has scared me. If I don’t conceive this month I’ll get it and then wait a month before trying again. Time not really on my side so have done a bit of a cost benefit analysis. I will get it and have had all other vaccines including the in pregnancy ones and ones for DS. It’s just a massive unknown regarding fertility. Please don’t give me a hard time. All my close family (parents, PIL, and DS my partner and I) all had Covid last year. My father in Law passed away from it so I’m definitely taking it seriously.

SandyCane · 30/06/2021 20:36

I haven't had it, I don't want it.

I have some medical issues I've put in a lot of effort to overcome (big lifestyle changes etc) and I don't want to risk getting the vaccine and that knocking me back to where I was before. I hardly so much as take a paracetamol.

Most of my extended family have had a very bad reaction and my dm ended up very ill in hospital after the vaccine. It's just not a risk I'm willing to take for my own health.

I have had all other vaccines, but don't take a flu vaccine despite it being very much encouraged in my workplace every year (clinic set up vaccinating staff)

And just for the drama - no I don't think I'm special, I also don't think I'm selfish.

I don't think the vaccine contains a tracking chip, will make me magnetic, make me start making the windows start up noice when I cough/fart/sneeze, or that bill gates will watch my every move or that my 5G signal will improve, although these are all hilarious responses, and everyone thinks they are the first person to say it.

I also don't plan to stay indoors or away from other people as some sort of punishment for wanting body/medical autonomy.

I also think I still 100% deserve hospital treatment if I'm unlucky enough to get covid and require it, the same way I think smokers, obese people, alcoholics also all deserve treatment.

Think I've probably covered all bases! Wink
