Shes going to have to face the music, it'll be worse for her if she doesn't!

SmellThat · 28/06/2021 18:34

Why on earth did they hold it out like that?. Bloody stupid of them Were there no stewards about?

YoComoManzanas · 28/06/2021 18:38

I'm glad the organisers are doing something about this, it happens far too often. Spectators blowing airhorns in cylists faces and the number of crashes causes by specrators is ridiculous.
No they can't marshal a 197km long cycle route.

toffeebutterpopcorn · 28/06/2021 18:41

I cannot tell a lie... I’d hand myself in (they will catch up with her anyway, why make it worse). Even through it would most likely have been my sister (always was when we were kids).

SquatBetty · 28/06/2021 18:42

What an absolute prick! Hope they get found

AbsolutelyPatsy · 28/06/2021 18:49

it was a mistake with spectacular consequences

OnTheBrink1 · 28/06/2021 18:56

She wasn’t looking and didn’t mean any malicious intent. The spectators and cycalists are far to close together. This will happened again unless there is some sort of temporary barrier

AbsolutelyPatsy · 28/06/2021 19:07

i hope she is ok, she must be so upset about the whole event.

TeardropsFallingOnHotSand · 28/06/2021 19:11

Fleeing makes it worse. It is like standing in a hole and trying to dig yourself out with a spade. I would hand myself in and then blame it on Absinthe.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 28/06/2021 19:14

the sign was for her grandfather, so we dont know her age, but Absinthe seems a great idea

IHaveBrilloHair · 28/06/2021 19:16

I'd live in a cave forever.
Actually, I think I'd do something really awful...
OK, it was a bloody stupid thing to do, but she must be in a terrible place right now.

Samcro · 28/06/2021 19:18

@AbsolutelyPatsy

i hope she is ok, she must be so upset about the whole event.
You are kidding. She caused a crash that injured people. It wasn't a mistake
ChateauMargaux · 28/06/2021 19:20

Its not the first crash that has been caused by someone other than a rider... but it is the first woman and she is being hung out to dry. There have been motorcyclists, TV cameramen, support car drivers, a policeman taking a photo... none of these people have been prosecuted.

I might be wrong... but it feels a little misogynistic.. and yes... I totally accept that this was an horrific accident, possibly one of the biggest and I might be just seeing offense where in this case it is not motivated by ingrained misogyny.

AbsolutelyPatsy · 28/06/2021 19:20

you think? @Samcro
wherever did you get that idea?

OP posts:
AlfonsoTheMango · 28/06/2021 19:20

First, I would hide until I got the courage to turn myself in. Next, I would apologise and apologise and apologise.

And I would never, ever stop blaming myself for being so stupid.

Winkywonkydonkey · 28/06/2021 19:21

I'd she was clever she'd get a marketing deal out of it.

Kendodd · 28/06/2021 19:22

I'm sure she is very sorry but hope she faces really serious legal penalties for this. Somebody is going to be killed one day because of irresponsible spectators like this.

fossowaymum · 28/06/2021 19:23

Cyclists have been in hospital because of her stupidity. She should have come forward immediately.

FelicityBeedle · 28/06/2021 19:23

@Samcro
It wasn’t deliberate, therefore it was a mistake. Caused by the negligence of the organisers and the presence of cameras IMO. She was angling her sign so the camera could see better, and neither she nor the rider noticed how close together they were

Dowserforever · 28/06/2021 19:24

I’d be mortified

Twothirtyam · 28/06/2021 19:24

@AbsolutelyPatsy I feel sorry for her it obviously wasn’t on purpose and now there’s the possibility of a jail sentence apparently! It was a terrible mistake but as someone else said it wasn’t at all malicious. It’s a shame she ran away.

AlfonsoTheMango · 28/06/2021 19:26

It is the moral equivalent of a hit-and-run road traffic accident. She is culpable.

Theunamedcat · 28/06/2021 19:26

She wasn't even looking i dont think it was intended

Why are they planning on suing her for what? Fucking stupidity isn't a crime in France is it?

Bubblesforlife · 28/06/2021 19:27

While she didn’t mean anything malicious. What an absolute clown.

thecognoscenti · 28/06/2021 19:27

Each stage (day) of the tour is 150-220km, and it goes on for three weeks. It's not possible to set up barriers or have stewards throughout each one. It's a tradition that spectators stand at the roadside. Sadly we live in an age now where some gormless twats think it's more important to try and get on tv than to have any respect for the athletes.
