Is there a tube near travelodge battersea thats handy for kings cross? Or is there taxi's that can take up to 10 people...or a good taxi firm going to and from battersea anyway?

Hello, why can’t you take a couple of taxis or Uber’s? Otherwise you’ll need to book a mini van. Are you staying in battersea or kings cross?

ssd · 13/06/2021 11:51

Staying in battersea

Google Maps suggests walk to Clapham Junction, train to Victoria, get on Victoria Line to Kings Cross. Sounds pretty straightforward to me?

ssd · 13/06/2021 11:52

Ive never booked an uberBlush

Uber is my go-to for taxis - the app is very easy to use. I understand you can schedule one for the future but I never have - most of the time most people just use it for an immediate ride.

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 13/06/2021 11:58

Download the Citymapper app and it will give you lots of options.

milinhas · 13/06/2021 11:58

If timing was important and I wanted to schedule a taxi (eg for a flight) I would book using Addison Lee.

BetterCare · 13/06/2021 12:01

As @ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn suggested. Citymapper app is brilliant and it will show you the best way, the quickest way, the cheapest way and any other to get everywhere in the city.

If you’re travelling into Kings Cross then Battersea wasn’t the most obvious place to stay. It isn’t really serviced by a tube line ( that part). Your hotel looks pretty close to Clapham Junction which is a very busy overground station. I’d probably jump on the tube to Victoria and then change to the overground there.... most trains stop at CJ. ( if not all). Even with the change It will be pretty fast assuming you’re not arriving in rush hour. I personally wouldn’t get a cab for the entire journey because you’d likely be crawling in traffic but cabs from central London back to the hotel after a night out would probably be ok as it’s just over the river.( Although I have walked to my Travel Lodge in less salubrious Waterloo from Covent Garden at 02.00am and loved that... )

SquirmOfEels · 13/06/2021 12:06

You're not near the tube there at all.

Keens Cars is a well known London-wide minicar firm whose HQ is in Battersea, so I'd use them if you dont fancy an Uber

If you'd rather use public transport you'll need to change a few times

  • get bus from outside Travelodge to Victoria, change to tube there confusingly there are stops on both sides of the road for this as they use different bridges.
  • get the 44 towards Victoria but get off at Queenstown Road, cross over and go to the bus stop directly in from of Battersea Park Station and get one of the buses from there to Vauxhall (I think they all go there) and change to Victoria line there
  • shortish walk to Clapham Junction station, train to Victoria and tube from there.

I'd do one of the latter two, if not getting minicab/uber

SquirmOfEels · 13/06/2021 12:12

I may have just described the journey the wrong way round!

From Kings Cross, Victoria line tube to either
a) Victoria station - change to 170 or 44 bus, either of which will take you to the right bit of York Road - both meander a bit on the way, but ths might be the most foolproof way. Or get train to Clapham Junction then walk the last bit
b) Vauxhall station - change to 156 or 344 bus, get out at Battersea Park Station, walk (in the same direction as the bus was travelling) cross over at the lights going straight on, and get the 44 bus from the next stop you come to.

Thanks

It’s a 5/10 min walk to Clapham junction from your hotel. (Go in the back entrance on Grant Road to save a 10 min walk) take the train to Vauxhall (1 stop and 5 min journey) change here onto Victoria line. It’s much quicker and easier change than Victoria- so journey will be shorter.
Enjoy !

SquirmOfEels · 13/06/2021 12:34

Good option - I always forget about the train at Vauxhall!

CorianderBee · 13/06/2021 12:35

Just Chuck it in Google Maps and it will show you the best tube route.

ssd · 13/06/2021 14:06

Great tips thanks

Cruisinforcroissant · 13/06/2021 22:32

Use Citymapper not google - google doesn’t have up to date delays and platform changes

ssd · 14/06/2021 07:57

I'll download citymapper
Can i ask about tickets...will be there 4 days, whats a good ticket to buy to cover travel, probably on trains and tubes, around London, eg. Battersea where I'm staying, kings cross where im meeting someone?

I wouldn’t bother buying travel cards - just use your debit / credit card contactless to pay for each journey, the system caps spending at the same price as a daily travel card would have been.

Thanks, so just tap on the contactless thingy for each journey and you only get charged a certain limit?

ComtesseDeSpair · 14/06/2021 10:15

Yup Smile Easy as anything and no need to worry about whether you’d bought the correct pass for the zone you’re travelling in etc.

To get from your Travelodge to the Grant Road entrance to CJ station, you walk along York Road, turn right onto Plough Road, then Grant Road is on your left, just keep walking. Easy peasy.

newnortherner111 · 14/06/2021 10:30

Yes to the contactless tapping on the yellow gate readers when travelling and you will be charged correct fare.

Agree with the Addison Lee suggestion for a cab back to where you are staying.

eurochick · 14/06/2021 10:58

Yes, just use the same card each time and if you hit a limit the spend will be capped.
