Help! I Need Zoom Party Ideas!

Afternoon lovely Mumsnetters! I need your help! It is my son's 9th Birthday at the end of January and I think in all likelihood given the current situation with Covid the only party option we will have available to us will be one via Zoom. Has anyone got any tips / ideas for how I could organise and run a fun Zoom party and for any fun activities we could do? 😃

a film party could work, using something like Netflix party or scener (both are downloadable on google chrome, you share your netflix screen and everyone can watch).
I've also seen kids have an online entertainer, like this one, if you wanted a more structured aproach

Kahoot quizzes are fun if they have a device that’s accessible.

These are great suggestions thank you! Anyone got any suggestions for home made activities as an alternative?

DD done this with friends and enjoyed the 'fetch me' game. Fetch me the biggest spoon you've got, fetch me your duvet, fetch me something beginning with... etc Grin they bring it back and show everyone.

Good fun and wore them out.

MrsTerryPratchett · 29/12/2020 21:17

DD had one recently. 90% of the time was the children showing each other their pets Hmm

purpledagger · 29/12/2020 21:46

I attended a zoom party with 'go fetch' which was pretty good.

If you are doing activities, could you send packs to the parents in advance which are opened before each activity? Eg printing off instructions from your pc of a 'go fetch' list. That way, the children will all have the same things and will feel like they are together.

Talent contest?
Song, music, dance, make something or whatever.

Quiz.
Jokes/riddles.

Littlefish · 30/12/2020 00:25

My dd was 16 during lockdown. I made up bags for each of her 5 friends with party poppers, sparklers, cupcakes, metal straw, photo booth accessories, sweets, crisps etc. and delivered them to each girl's house prior to a zoom party.

I then arranged a dominos pizza delivery to each house so they could all eat at the same time.

The pizza was the most expensive bit, but you could always buy supermarket pizzas and deliver them to each house for cooking at a pre-arranged time.

We did a zoom party for DS (11) recently and did what other posters are calling fetch, but we called it a treasure hunt! A few of the kids who did the party enjoyed the treasure hunt in particular. Some of the things we asked for:

  • a blank sheet of paper
  • something beginning with 'P' (or other letter)
  • something that rhymes with (insert word here, your DD's name?)
  • draw something on the blank sheet of paper
Etc

I also recommend a theme, we had a tropical theme for DS, very funny, you would have thought it was mid-July not December from the Zoom Grin but you can also ask for specific colours or a dressing up contest

easilydistracted · 30/12/2020 01:00

Sorry I meant your DS' name not DD for the treasure hunt!

I have seen online virtual escape rooms, I have seen a Harry Potter themed one.

You could play pictionary, you can put a person in a breakout room and tell them what they need to draw and then they come back to the main room and draw it and show the others.

Music quiz via YouTube.

Aww that's cute though!
DoingTheBestICan · 30/12/2020 12:06

There is a man on FB called Joe's Bows and he can do a virtual show and tell of his birds of prey, he only asks for a small donation to feed the birds he has.

Virtual magic show.

A virtual cook-a-long?

I am a scout leader and these are just some of the non-scout things we have done over Zoom.

tomnjerrylover · 30/12/2020 12:34

Het yourself the task master book or have a look at the online thing they did

superram · 30/12/2020 12:36

I would second task master

RizzleDrizzle · 30/12/2020 12:43

How about something like “Codewords” if you have enough to have teams.

MrsTerryPratchett · 30/12/2020 14:55

Aww that's cute though!

It was adorable. The poor parents were trying to engage the kids but it was all "OMG Amelia, your ferret is cute, can we see the snake again Henry!"

Bedlam.

lolawasashowgirl · 30/12/2020 15:33

Thanks everyone these ideas are all fab - I feel slightly calmer already! Keep em coming!
