I love when my hoover crackles, because I know that means it’s picking up all the dirt!

Rain hitting my window, especially if it's dark as well either when I'm in bed or watching tv with a glass of red.

The twinkling sound of being underwater. Complete silence using ear plugs or ear defenders. A crackling fire. Crunching leaves in a forest. The sea. Laughter. Christmas Carols.

The sound of a shallow river running fast over rocks.

The little snuffly muffled barks that my dog does when she's dreaming.

The chirp my cat does when you wake her up. It's so cute I do it quite a bit. Think it means 'will you just fuck off'

My cat's purr, I fall asleep to it every night.

The sound of ropes slapping on masts in a harbour - the cord for our blind makes this noise banging the radiator in the breeze and it's so soothing.

Swifts in flight.

Blackbirds on a misty autumn morning.

My children playing music (although it has taken some years to get to this point!)

The sound of cheese when you've just taken your macaroni cheese out from under the grill.

Great idea for a thread.

I like hearing light aircraft flying over. I grew up next to a small airfield so I find the noise very soothing.

What a timely thread! I was thinking this morning of how much I love the sound of the trees above me rustling in the breeze. It's such a nostalgic sound, melancholic even, evoking so many memories of different places I have loved over my lifetime.

The sound of my dog's tail thumping on the hardwood floor. I can hear it before we even see each other. Smile

Blackbird song. I also like the crackling of a vacuum cleaner..

I love that sound, especially if they're walking slowly. It sends me to sleep!

The pop of a champagne cork
Young children laughing in the distance
water moving - any from as little as a brook to a large waterfall

YY to rain hitting the window when its dark outside and you're cosy indoors.

Trees creaking in a breeze as you walk through a forest, preferably on a sunny day.

Snores of a sleeping baby but not when they snort like a pig at 3am 😁

Writing with a scratchy pencil

Blackbirds. Lapwings. Steam engines. Vintage planes. Fairgrounds. Those coiled metal door-saver things that go booiinnng! when you twang them.

Clicking of acrylic nails on things

Computer keyboard clicking

Stilettos on a tile/wooden floor
(Any cracking, crunching, clicks noises really.)

The sizzling noise a roasting hot frying pan being put under cold water makes

DDs (4) cute little sleeping noises. She does little snores and chats away in her sleep but in a tiny voice (different from the megaphone volume all day long!)

But, my most favourite of all,
Complete silence

A sound I'm nostalgic for is a thick plastic bag rustling. It reminds me of my bookbag at school.

The sparrow babies chattering in the garden

Mrs Robin chirping at me when I’m gardening (think she wants me to move so she can have the worms 😊)

Pigeons cooing in the evening ( not the morning!)

The noise my previous dog made when I came home - it was a wired cross between a howl and a bark - I miss it so much

My dad answering the phone - he’s always so happy to hear from me

My babies (not that they’re that little any more) whispering they love me and the sound of their breathing when asleep

Any sound of moving water

Bees being busy

Leaves after a frost, especially early in the morning

I have a huge willow tree in my garden. I have a sofa underneath it. I’m guaranteed to fall asleep lying on the sofa. It’s a lovely sound.

Yy KingOfDogShite!** From the Meaning of Liff

"Hambledon (n.): The sound of a single-engined aircraft flying by, heard whilst lying in a summer field in England, which somehow concentrates the silence and sense of space and timelessness and leaves one with a profound feeling of something or other".

The lazy purr of somebody else's lawn-mower in a garden about three doors down.

That tinkling sound you get mid-afternoon in boring lectures / seminars that announces the arrival outside the door of ... the tea trolley!
