Seems to be a lot of pre brexit stockpiling going on here. But none in real life Confused

they're just not telling you about it so that you don't ask them to share their stuff

2 of my colleagues are. My mum thinks my mini stockpile is bonkers.
My best friend voted leave (oh the shame) so I haven’t told her I’m buying some extra food to store.
I am half stockpiling, half sticking my head in the sand and hoping it’s all a bad dream and tomorrow I can eat all the chocolate I have stockpiled all in one go.
Please can someone make it stop?!

No, plenty of it going on at work. Mostly wine tbh.

Well I have a real life friend who is stockpiling, but she is doing it because she read about it on Mumsnet. So not sure if that counts 😂

I'm stockpiling but not told anybody in 'real life'. Why on earth wouldn't you get some extra supplies in, assuming you have enough money and some space?!

Why do you think there's none going on in real life OP?

No one I know has mentioned it. I think I’m alone amongst people in rl. It’s an mn thing.

Hmm no idea though I'm curious to see exactly what items you all think are worth stockpiling. :)

Why would I mum?

Apparently judy
Loo roll is the big one because the pulp is shipped over from europe.

Tbh I just think it’s a vicious cycle, where do you draw the line?

I’m amazed anyone who frequents mn has missed the threads. They’re very active. I guess some might have hidden the whole brexit topic which in itself would indicate they are the head in the sand type.

I’ve seen loads of people stocking up. One woman at Lidl last week literally couldn’t get anything more in her car. She’s clearly done a number of trips back and forth with the trolley.

Ive got a plastic storage box full of pasta.. much to me exdp’s amusement after the dc told him (he voted to leave - the dc annoyed he voted leave too)
Pasta is as far as I’ve got.. will get some beans and tons etc that I will use anyway and keep in date..

My mum is now stocking up too, she wasn’t until dc told her and she started to google it...

@ScaffellPoke - because at worst there may be disruption in supplies getting into the country, at best prices will rise considerably post-Brexit.

I know a few neighbours who are stocking up on basic bits, we live fairly remote and basically right at the end of the supply chain, if there's any delays we would feel it.

Even taking Brexit out of the equation, there are loads of people that don't like to let their cupboards get too empty and could happily survive on what they have in the house for quite some time. I can't actually see how that is any different to stockpiling ...

I am stock piling but haven’t told anyone in real life. Wouldn’t want anyone one chapping/smashing my door!

I haven’t been in any supermarket locally where shelves are emptying and where women can’t get any more stuff in their car. Mn is a different world to my rl. Actually in more ways than Brexit stockpiling tbh.

No clue as I'm on MN and therefore don't count.

I did suggest to someone that she get a few bits in in advance just in case the shops ran low due to panic buyers. She seemed very surprised and interested, so I had the impression she hadn't thought of it before. But she might just be an incredible actor and have a Brexit cupboard at home under the stairs. Grin

Nobody in real life has told me they're stockpiling. But that doesn't really mean anything because I've stockpiled some stuff and not told anyone!

People are stockpiling? Why? Is the world going to stop revolving? Can we not get trade/food from countries outside of the EU? What am I missing here???

BrieAndChilli · 20/02/2019 22:57

On mumsnet no one knows who I am, although I’m sure a few determined people could probably do some detective work and find out who I was
But generally I can talk about my stash safe in the knowledge that when the shtf none of you will be on my doorstep wanting to be fed
However if I go around telling people I actually know that we have lots of food, when the shop shelves are empty they will be coming round asking to borrow food/be fed. If things get REALLY desperatesuch as proper rioting/shortages so that people are starving civility goes out the window and people may well target my house if they know I had a stash.

My dh cottoned on to my MN driven secret squirrelling, when he came across my cat food stash in the garage Grin

Have also got pasta, sauces, part-baked bread and tins - mainly tuna, beans and tinned fruit, bottled water and of course loo rolls! I'm not telling anyone in RL, in case they think I'm a bit......odd Grin

We can, but we would need to negotiate trade deals with all the relevant countries, and as far as I am aware from reading, we've managed 5 so far, with time running out. This is in the event of a no-deal Brexit, I understand.

Well I’m on MN and definitely not stockpiling anything!
No idea if anyone else in my life is, they can crack on and do it if it makes them happy.
