Full time employee doesn't work Mondays - what happens for bank holidays?

We are planning to employ a full time nanny but they would not be working on Mondays. I'm not sure what's normal/required in terms of bank holidays?

I do this. Leave is in hours not days and for bank hols on my day off I am credited only a normal days hours for it.

We get the Tuesday off as we don't work Mondays either.

OK, I'll grant you the pedantic but, annoyingly, correct 5.6 weeks instead of 28 days. But 28 days is not too little for a 6-day-week, it is what they are due.

Be careful of defining holidays in hours because you may find them asking to take holidays in hours eg leaving an hour early on a Friday. You want holiday to be taken in blocks of at least half a day.

Are you full time or part time? Because if you're part time, they may be crediting you too many hours if a bank holiday falls on your day off.

It's categorised as a full time role (so I thought it was the equivalent of working 5 days) because it is 45 hours a week, but those are done over 4 days - different hours on the different days, no hours on a Monday.

45 hours per week multiplied by 5.6 weeks equals 252 hours of annual leave. Simples.

And if she does different length days, if she has a long day off she uses more annual leave than if she has a short day off if it is measured in hours.

Otherwise you might find she always has long days off, or she might find you always give her short days off, so either side could lose out if she has leave measured in days rather than hours.

It sounds obvious, but unless she's working a five day week, she's not working a five day week.

She is entitled to 5.6 weeks.

The only confusion is that different workplaces treat bank holidays differently. You don't have to treat them as anything at all. They're just a day.

She gets 5.6 weeks. If she does 40 hours a week then she gets 5.6x40hrs to use.

Exactly. Forget about bank holidays. If she has a bank holiday off when she would normally work it (Good Friday, Christmas etc), it comes out of her annual leave.

Its not pedantic. Not everyone works office hours Monday to Friday.

As she is working different hours on different days you need to do the calculation in hours.

She is entitled to 5.6 weeks holiday per year. If she does 45 hours per week she is therefore entitled to 45 * 5.6 = 252 hours off per year.

If a bank holiday falls on a day she would normally work you would deduct the number of hours she would normally work from her holiday entitlement. If it falls on a day she would normally not work her holiday entitlement is untouched.
