Good opinion piece by Sonia Sodha

There is a clash here with Stonewall’s campaign to abolish legal provisions for single-sex spaces, so that males who identify as women have the same rights to access them as those born female. Disagreement on what it means to be a woman – whether it is solely based on a feeling or whether it is related to sex – is one thing, although gender-critical feminists regard the reduction of womanhood to gender expression as reinforcing regressive gender norms. But it is extraordinary that Kelley believes that she is justified in likening these views to antisemitism and arguing that women’s freedom to express them should be legally curtailed.
...
It is distressing that Stonewall’s board cannot see what its actions are jeopardising. While some campaigners may balk at trying to win over those who don’t align to their world view – because they’re supposedly evil – this is a guaranteed way to halt progress and generate backlash.

Ironically, this is a very good example of a situation where sex is relevant. Lord is very much trying to intimidate Sodhal as an establishment insider, and that can't be separated from freemasonry.

Edward Lord and Roz Kaveney both issuing threats today. Why could that be? 🤔

Completely not the point of thread but pissed off

Why does every protest, campaign or anti whatever lately have to bring antisemitism, Nuremberg or the holocaust into it

Seriously all these comparisons lately are just dreadful and not a comparison at all

People that do this are often claiming to be so intelligent, compassionate and progressive. When in fact they are just ignorant offensive and complete arses.

Our position remains the same: women's rights are not Stonewall's to give away. There are no exceptions to the democratic process. courtesy of FiLiA. I feel like making a f*cking great banner and sticking it on my roof. I'm randomly posting this, so you may come across it in other threads Grin

Edward Lords behaviour was one of my WTF moments when I had just started visiting FWR. A white male drenched in privilege, member of that all male club- the masons, lecturing women about where our boundaries should sit. He hasn't changed, still bullying women.

oooh Adoption UK have told Stonewall off!

your laudable drive for workplace equality has a major downside for thousands of women who didn't give birth but are mothers by adoption, many of whom are LGBTQ+. Let’s get your Workplace Equality Index right for everyone.

This deserves a boost....

Just saw a bunch of people on twitter complaining about the Guardian’s “transphobia” and thought...hmmm... that’s a turn up for the books!

Came on here to find out why, I’m guessing they don’t like a more finely balanced piece of journalism.

He's......well my true opinion would break talk guidelines and I won't give them the pleasure of getting me a strike.

I will simply state that I hope the days of him "Lording" his misogyny are waining.

Agreed.

If you’d told me even 5 years ago I’d be pleased to see Stonewall going down I wouldn’t have believed it. What a strange time.

Well I made the incredibly stupid mistake of posting support for Sonya on Facebook under her article. So far I've been called a bigot, a T*, nazi, facist, been threatened that I'll be reported to the Labour Party and thrown out, and wished a slow and painful death.
The hatred of women is visceral.

Yeah it's like they have flipped positions? I left Shitter because it was so vile and sexist. Facebook seems worse now though...can't follow it all

From Libby sources in the Times

Stonewall’s word-policing only breeds more hate.

That's a really good, clear piece from Libby Purves, thanks for the share. I don't always agree with her takes but it makes some very thoughtful points while voicing concern for the LGBT community and maintaining support for trans people in particular. It is pro-women and offers nothing but constructive criticism of Stonewall.

Assume it's just being torn down for hatred and bigotry on social media, then.

I don't understand why any woman pays any attention to LOJ. He seems to dislike all women and I've never read anything interesting by him. The Guardian could easily survive without him but for some bizarre reason chooses not to. It used to support women. Now it supports men who dislike women
