Quitting sugar accountability thread

quittingsugaryay · 14/02/2024 22:23

I'm quitting sugar for 30 days. I did it before and lost lots of weight, cleared my skin and felt more energetic.
So here are my rules:
*No added sugar (check every label)
*No honey
*I'm allowed to eat fruits but the ones with low glucemic index
*No pasta and no bread.

I'll be using this thread as accountability thread. Everybody is welcome to join.
Thank you x

Yes please. I need this and will start tomorrow too. I think I need to meal plan. Sugary snacks and being generally disorganised around meal times are my down fall.

What do you plan to eat for breakfast? I don’t have time to cook anything. Maybe overnight oats would be a good staple breakfast?

I’ve also done this before and felt more energetic, just need to get through the initial cravings….

overnights oats sounds good.
I'll have natural yoghurt with fruit for breakfast.
Lunch: salad
Dinner: I have no idea.

I'll try not to have snacks but if I'm too hungry maybe a handful of nuts or a small piece of fruit..

and yes the first week with sugar cravings is very difficult, that's why I need this thread to keep myself motivated. :)

Over here!! Definitely need to do something…all I want to ever do is eat and eat because I’m so tired but I’m also so tired I make awful food choices. I do know how to do this, just need a bit of support at beginning.
Have you got any staples worked out? I love porridge for breakfast @anicecuppateaa made with either water or unsweetened soya milk; or eggs.

Contraversialcate · 14/02/2024 22:52

Following as given up choc for Lent and it’s going to be tough - good luck all x

Sign in too. I am trying to follow the Blood Sugar diet as I have some uncontrollable cravings if I have sugars, processed carbs or fruits with high glycemic index.

I tried it for 3 weeks in January and I couldn’t believe the difference it made to my skin and energy levels.

I’m avoiding oats as they feed my sugar addiction but egg and avocado on a thin slice of sourdough bread or omelette are my favourite breakfasts.

If in a hurry I add two spoonfuls of milled flax, half teaspoon of poppy seeds and one tbsp of collagen to my coffee, which keeps me full for a good three hours.

MeinKraft · 14/02/2024 22:55

Oh I was just thinking about starting a thread! I'm off sugar for lent. I have been stuffing my face with buns, cakes, chocolate and coke for far too long. I would happily eat a packet of Jaffa cakes for breakfast. Really really need to break the habit and hopefully lose some weight along the way.

Andrasa · 14/02/2024 22:56

I’m doing this from tomorrow but less strict than you, I’m keeping pasta and bread (in moderation) but cutting all snack sugar and trying to go for protein lunches e.g. scrambled eggs on one piece of toast for lunches.

also going to cut snacks in general and just eat lunch and dinner to get a bit of if going.

NotAgainWilson · 14/02/2024 22:56

Thank you so much for this thread @quittingsugaryay, it had come exactly at the right time 🙏🏼

MeinKraft · 14/02/2024 22:56

Should add I have had gestational diabetes twice before so I know what I have to do. It's just actually doing it.

TheMoonstone · 14/02/2024 22:57

@quittingsugaryay tomorrow, otherwise I’ll continue to put it off. We can say enough is enough!

SkaneTos · 14/02/2024 22:59

I am giving up candy for lent. I eat quite a lot of candy the rest of the year, so this is a really good break for my body.

FlojoHoHoHo · 14/02/2024 23:01

Count me in but I’ll be keeping pasta sand reducing breads. I’ve been eating too much snack food for meals so that needs to stop.

I’ll be in work so grabbing something from M&S at lunch. any ideas?

Gowlett · 14/02/2024 23:02

Me. I’ve been shocking with sugar, lately. I look & feel terrible… Did a five day health-kick detox in Jan (with a nutritionist in a group). It was great & I didn’t miss sugar at all that week. But as soon as I started again… Yes, I’d like to join!

I'd love to know what you were recommended by the doctors as I never had doctor's input on my diet so I might be doing things wrong

Another Lenten faster here. My addiction is pretty out of control at the moment, thanks to stress at work. I’m overweight and struggling with fat woman ailments - plantar fasciitis, knee pain, hypertension, snoring, and a really rubbish pelvic floor. Apart from sugar I eat v healthily, exercise 5 days a week etc, but the amount of chocolate I’m eating on a daily basis is shameful.

For every day that I don’t eat sugar I’m going to put the amount I have saved in a jar and on Easter Sunday I really want to donate it to Epilepsy research, in memory of a family member.

Gowlett · 14/02/2024 23:06

FlojoHoHoHo, M&S have these lovely Buddha Bowl style salads, I add my own fish / chicken / tofu & a few nuts / seeds. Didn’t see them this week… They’d better not be discontinued!

Welcome!
do they have salads ready to go? Maybe a salad with protein on it, tuna or eggs. Protein makes us to feel fuller

welcome! I do think this is a great idea, I'll do the same, every time I will have a sweet craving I'll put money in a jar for the cost of maltesers bag and in the end of the 30 days donated to a charity.

Hmm. If I do this I could have enough to buy a Wegovy pen Blush
