Question Thread for New Year Bootcampers

BigStickBIWI · 07/01/2013 16:14

As there are so many of us doing this, the chat thread is moving pretty quickly - and it means that lots of questions are being missed.

So here is a specific thread you to post any questions you might have about Bootcamp or low carbing.

Is Berocca ok in the Bootcamp?
I like drinking it in the morning and have noticed it's ok when LC but is also ok in the Bootcamp? Thanks!!!

caramelwaffle · 08/01/2013 14:22

PP I, and others used Berocca on previous Bootcamps and it did not impede weightloss.

It seems to be a better choice than some of the other supplements which contain large amounts of starches and sugars.

BigStickBIWI · 08/01/2013 14:23

Grin Roobs! It's a thought ...

PrettyPirate - I have a Berocca every day. It does have sweeteners in it - unless you take the tablet variety - so strictly speaking it's not really OK for Bootcamp. I use it to take other supplements (calcium, magnesium and vit D), and justify it as my first 500ml of water!

However, given that I eat/drink very minimal amounts of other artificial stuff, I think it's OK.

If you find weight loss slow, though, it's something to consider removing from your diet for a while - perhaps switch to the tablet form?

Happygolucky - obv you have not lost 11lb overnight (would that we could...) so def invest in new scales and/or battery. Weigh at the gym/Boots - which will give you a middle figure Grin and take which one you like, but you do need to weigh on the same scales all the time - pref accurate ones!

Ginot An interesting piece here re children and low carbing

So, after the initial 2 weeks bootcamp, it slows down to a more intermediate level and nuts/berries etc are back on the menu in small amounts?

PrettyPirate · 08/01/2013 15:46

Thanks caramel and BIWI.
I think I'll keep drinking berocca and see if it affect my weight loss. I do look at it as my easy first pint of water in the morning!

Rooobs · 08/01/2013 16:21

any thoughts on how I can get pate in to my gob other than by spoon?

I don't like celery and I find cucumber not quite right flavour wise.

BigStickBIWI · 08/01/2013 16:25

Yes, indeed, slatternlymother! The Bootcamp Light rules are also on the bottom of the spreadsheet.

Roobs - how about using little gem lettuce leaves to wrap it in?

Hang on a minute, hold the bus I have a question of vital importance and I need clarification:

DARK RUM IS LOW CARB?

Really?????

I know white rum is carb free but I thought dark rum was laden with carbs same as Southern Comfort and Drambuie.

Why did I not know this BEFORE I stopped drinking for 6 weeks?

Jacaqueen · 08/01/2013 16:55

Roobs there are flaxseed crackers you can make. I think it's in the recipe section. It is just ground flaxseed (linseed) mixed with water and salt then baked in the oven. You can add cheese, seeds, herbs etc to add flavour.

They also make you poo!

captainmummy · 08/01/2013 17:23

JAca - I think i've made them with 1 cup ground linseeds to 1 egg. Floavour with rosemary/sea salt/cheese etc. If i can make 'em with only water they might be more crispy? not so crumbly.

Agree about the pooing bit Blush v useful sometimes.

skandi1 · 08/01/2013 17:40

I keep reading about net carbs online. Slightly confused. I am supposed to work out my net carbs or just the carb. What is the difference?

timidviper · 08/01/2013 17:49

skandi In the UK carbs are listed differently to in the US.

The UK lists carbs and fibre seperately, the US lists a total carb figure that includes carbs and fibre so net carbs is the carb value minus the fibre but that is for US nutritional info only.

timidviper · 08/01/2013 17:50

Sorry posted too soon!

The UK carb figure is the equivalent of US net carbs

BigStickBIWI · 08/01/2013 17:51

Net carbs is an American thing, skandi1 - they include fibre in their overall carb count. So if you read any American sites, it's always the net carb count that you want.

Jacaqueen - Mount Gay isn't dark rum, it's golden rum. Now you've got me worried though! I'm sure I checked that it was carb-free. Will have to go and check ....

OP posts:
BigStickBIWI · 08/01/2013 17:54

Phew - I was right! Mount Gay is 0 carbs.

BigStickBIWI · 08/01/2013 18:14

I don't think a temperature is part of carb flu, AuntieMaggie. Sorry Sad
