This sounds lame, it truly does.

I'm a year on from my NQT, in a school that had OFSTED visit twice since the time I started. So between NQT observations, coaching (for up and coming inspection), external Mentor observations, I racked up 15 Observations in one academic year. They must like me because they've kept me on.

Anyway, I'm on 'normal' observations for my CPD now, so this will be my 2nd since September. The first was disastrous and I was told by my kindly Head of Dept, that it wasn't good enough - he didn't put it down on my CPD form but instead wrote satisfactory. He really is a gem of a Head of Dept. My next Obs is Thursday and I'm at a loss of how to teach to keep everyone happy. I am truly out of inspiration.

So, as lame as it sounds, are there any MFL teachers out there with an 'Observation' lesson that they could show me. I'm on a particular unit of work at the moment so I would adjust it to suit (I'm not trying to get out of it - I PROMISE! - I'm am totally without idea for this). I have a starter task sorted, and I'm not at a stage where I can consolidate what I've taught them - so still very much at 'teaching' stage.

I hope this makes sense. I've been sat at my laptop for days and feel I am without any inspiration for that all out singing and dancing literacy lesson.

Agree about the no need for all-singing all-dancing. What precisely was the reason it wasn't 'good enough'? (not asking you to share, just that he should have given specific examples). I had an outstanding this week (MFL), and it boiled down to showing progress by constant Afl, putting in a bit 'o' culture, differentiated questioning and - laughably - the fact that my differentiated worksheets were on different coloured paper... (I do this so I can see who is working on what, at a glance).Targeted praise also earns brownie points, as does orderly starts and finishes. Also agree easier to show progress if you are introducing a new topic or construction, as you can easily establish at outset what they know, and then get the children to tick of the objectives as they learn that thing. And... I have to say, like a puppy not just for Xmas, this stuff is not just for obs, so your observer really should be giving you concrete suggestions as to how to make their learning better (and your life easier Grin) in every lesson, without having to run a three ring circus full of novelties. Also, when I have been questionable advice form an obs, I always ask if I can observe the observer to see how it is done. Perfectly reasonable request - then they are sweating, but if they do know their stuff you can learn from them, which is supposed to be the whole point. (did this last year and saw a chaotic lesson, so reflected on how she could have done better so it did still further my PD Grin)

It went ok - I had a Good and a Satisfactory and my feedback was more than fair. Presentation was very good (Thanks C!) and relationship with the pupils was good too. I missed a few opportunities for obvious extension tasks and I ran out of time!

Am worn out.
