The litter tray

Fucking neuter your male cats PLEASE

I have woken up this morning to a horrible stink that was created by the bastard Tom cat from down the road that has come in through an open window and sprayed everywhere. It stinks!

I've tried everything with this cat. I've sprayed water, done the wall of fear, put a paper collar on him telling the owners what he was doing (which would be stopped by a simple ball removal) but still months later the same thing is happening.

Ragdoll has been injured by him a good few times requiring vet treatment, I understand cats fight and the levers aren't responsible for this but he would be less aggressive if his balls were removed.

I have 4 neutered cats. But this one is clearly locked out at night and finds his way in for a feed and a warm. I had to open said window as DS who is disabled with health problems, was fitting and needed cooling down. We fell asleep and were woken up to bastard Tom howling at ragdoll and then the smell hit.

I'm at the end of my tether with him (or more accurately his owners, although I don't know who they are)

If you own a black and white Tom cat with a white tip at the end of his tail, just neuter him and let him in at night PLEASE!

If anyone has any ideas on how to deter this cat I would be very grateful. He is actually a very lovely little soul, although stinky and full of fleas (clearly flea collars aren't very effective as he has a new one on every week)

Well you could try one last paper collar informing the cat's owner of your intention first. It might force them into responding.

From another forum:
"Legal - no,Taking somebody elses Cat(property) and having it neutered is a criminal offense and people can be prosecuted(if the owner were to find out)for criminal damage to property.
If you want to stay on the right side of the law then you will have to advertise the cat as found, report it as found at the local police station and in the local free paper.
Notify your local vet and Cats protection,Rspca that you have found the cat and give them an accurate description.
After 30 days,If nobody claims the cat then you may re-home it with yourself and have him/her neutered/spayed"

I would drop him off as a stray. If they are worried about him they will look for him, if not at least in cat prison he will be warm, fed and safe.

Well I've done 3 paper collars and advertised him as found on CP 4 months ago so I'm fine.

He sounds like a Stray and perhaps you should organise getting him neutered!

RiverTam · 30/12/2015 22:54

Take him to the vet as a stray, they will check him for a microchip. No chip = another tick for irresponsible owner.

It is quite reasonable for anyone to assume that an unneutered cat is a stray.

A stray that magically procures flea collars on a regular basis Confused

Given the OP has given her number on a collar and also asked them to neuter the cat, there will be one prime suspect when he turn up nut less.

I'd like to see the Police follow that one up. Try reporting that to 101 Grin

My last post on this comes from the Vet Times
Under British law, cats are regarded as property. Action can be brought against an individual who steals, injures or kills a cat under the Theft Act 1968 or the Criminal Damage Act 1971. Criminal damage includes neutering, and people have been taken to court for neutering cats without an owner’s permission.
As I have previously stated, I agree that it is irresponsible not to neuter however I could never advocate an illegal action. The OP has already stated that she believes this cat has an owner so it should not therefore be treated as a stray.

i wouldn't take him to my local vet i would take him to a different vet tell them you have recently become responsible for the cat and get him done the owners might not even notice they are gone to be fair my one cat had a fluffy arse and you couldn't tell they were gone

you do realise it will only cure some of the smell not the spraying that will be a habit now

try a feliway diffuser?

Yes and I'm pretty sure you will not find any of those cases refer to this sort of scenario. I'd be prepared to bet that they were pedigrees and weren't just wandering around everywhere spraying. It's fine to treat stray cats, and it's reasonable to assume that any unneutered male wandering around is a stray. So no legal case could every be brought in this instance or any instance like it.

Also, to prove ownership, the cat has to be chipped. No case could be brought for an unchipped cat except in very rare circumstances as there can be no definitive proof of anything.

In any case this is all totally pointless arguing. The cats needs neutering. The OP is prepared to do it. Nothing will happen to her if she does.

abbsismyhero - it normally does stop the spraying (although not always as I've said above). I have had probably dozens of males that were neutered well into middle age, none of them have sprayed.

If he generally wanders about all night anyway would the owners even notice he was gone? Cats go missing and reappear all the time. We trapped an unneutered Tom once. Cats Protection got him neutered and would have released him back into the garden but he was FIV+ so went to live on their farm (at least that is the story they told us).

We now have our own boy and other than looking a bit smaller he doesn't look a lot different than he did preop.

Rescues are full to bursting around here, especially this time of year unfortunately. Nothing's going to happen to me if I neuter him. He's not a breed he's just a black and white moggy. I think it should be a bloody legal requirement to neuter outdoor cars, especially males who can get into people's houses and impregnate their very young cats.

Ragdoll we got aged 2/3. He sprayed, stank and was extremely aggressive. Neutered him 2 days after he arrived, problems disappered over night

I'd do it.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 31/12/2015 09:45

I'd do it. The so called owners obviously don't care about him, especially if he's riddled with fleas (and possibly worms) so I would take him to the vet as a stray. You'd be doing him a favour.
