General dog chat

Anyone fancy a general dog chat thread?

BiteyDog is now almost 15 months old and it's about time we ditched the puppy survival thread for general chit chat but it's still nice to chat about our doggie dilemmas and days so if anyone wants to join me in wittering on saves BiteyDog having the listen to my incessant talking at him then welcome aboard.

How's all the dogs coping with the snow in the northern parts? I am sick of the rain and I guess fortunate enough that BiteyDog doesn't like it much either so apart from a 20 min ball run we are snuggled up in the house today.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Sad. Sad news. But that face is gorgeous and has brightened the thread. Flowers
I know my girl will break my heart one day. Sad

Awww Mustang so sorry to hear about your girl. They really do become such a big part of the family.

snowy we only bought BiteyDog into the bedroom recently once we got rid of the crate in the kitchen. Sometimes I regret that decision Grin

Wolfie I felt too much like a gate crasher on the puppy thread so figured a new thread was needed now we are supposedly although BiteyDog doesn't think so grown up. Good luck at crufts, are you and BigWolfie going for just your breed day or for the whole week? It's certainly going to be a fun experience for you both. I went a couple of years back to just wander round the discover dogs section and it's so massive.

Lovely thread. Our DDog 1 has completely rearranged her furniture in the night - pulled seats off the sofa and put them on the floor. No idea why.

Mustang you haven't depressed the thread Flowers. This thread is for all dogs, young, old and those that we just remember. I keep saying to DH I have no idea what we would do without BiteyDog as he has made such a difference to our lives in a positive way. Lovely picture and big hugs to her brother.

DogTalk maybe she thinks she can do a better job of interior decorating Grin

@mustang, your girl was beautiful, so sorry she is no longer with you.

@biteyshark, my DH is allergic to dogs or I would definitely have them in the bedroom. Due to allergies they are restricted to certain rooms downstairs (and I def do not let them anywhere else where DH is away Grin)

Talking of interior decorating, we have had artistic diahhorea all over the kitchen floor greeting us for the last couple of mornings. Cocodog has always had a sensitive tum but has been really good on her Naturediet but since Christmas has alternated between constipation and loose poo. I thought I was overfeeding and cut down but the poo problems continued and went from whiffy to vile smell( sorry, tmi)
So first ill visit to vets, she has only been for routine jabs before. Now on a bland vet diet for a couple of weeks, anti inflamatories and poo sample sent off. Poor girl, the look on her face when the thermometer went in was priceless. Same as DHs when he went to pay!

When we throw toys in the garden she has a habit of running through our Island bed. I got some Hazel canes to try to stop her. This has increased her fun enormously as she just leaps over them.

Bluepuppy is nearly 11months old (and thinks he’s as tough as a Doberman or German shepherds) so we can probably hang out here now Smile

Dog parks can be good or bad. I tend to be a bit of a helicopter parent when I take my whippet but he has no sense of his small size and needs to be protected from himself Grin He was tearing around at such a speed at our local park today that he managed to take the top layer off one of his paw pads.

No outings for him this weekend as it’s going to be 42 degrees Sad Not sure how dog owners in places like Dubai cope where it’s even hotter in summer.

Turns out DDog 2 is off his food (will keep an eye on him) - I think this is why DDog 1 pulled cushions on the floor and slept there as it was closer to him the other side of the stairgate - aww.

We have stairgates due to a humping problem - anyone else? Both are neutered.

Thanks bitey, thanks snowydog, thanks blue. She is fine in herself out on walks, ran around like a loon with a young patterdale and gsp this morning but a bit despondent around the house. I think it’s the weather, she and I normally spend a lot more time in the garden.
Astrantia, cocodogs favourite place to sit is in the middle of a big patch of astrantia major, when they start to shoot again we may have to fence it off😂
The only time we visited a dog park cocodog appeared frightened which is unusual cos she isn’t a nervous dog, no idea why but we didn’t stay long.

@dogtallk, we have periodically had humping problems with snowydogs, think it is a dominance thing. Currently snowydog1 tries to hump snowydog2 whenever snowydog2 is being dried off with a towel. Snowydog2 is having none of it and growls whenever snowydog1 tries it

Please can I join in? I've been lurking for a while on the puppy thread but as DDog was nearly 9 months when we adopted him it didn't seem right. He was one on Boxing Day and is settling well.

Sorry for your loss Mustang

Hi Maxat👋
Dogtalk, there is another thread running at the moment on dog humping further down the page with links to an article by Victoria Stilwell.

Welcome Maxat. I spent so long waiting to get my first dog as an adult that I am boring everyone at work so it's nice to be able to chat to others about ours dogs but yes we too have outgrown the puppy thread Grin.

Wolfie good luck on the day. Do you think they will televise your section?

hello!
steppedog is a 3 year old springer spaniel, and we have had him for 2 months.
Whole family is smitten, he was an unexoected addition to the family. We were fostering him and he just well, fitted Grin

I always said I wouldn't have a dog as people who have dogs always have a house that smells of dog.

Walked in this evening, house smells of smelly wet dog, I smiled and said to the still-a-bit-soggy-dog "Ah did you have a nice walk?"

Report
BiteyShark · 23/01/2018 18:36

steppemum our spaniel also has a whiff about him when he is wet but it's amazing how nose blind you soon become to it when it's your own Grin

Thank you for the welcome.
Maxatdog is a springer/collie cross. I love talking about him so I hope to fit right in!!

Grin to nose blindness. He is either muddy, wet or drying off so probably smells all the time

steppedog has just been sitting at the back door, bolt upright with that
Are we going for a walk?? Are we?? Are we?? Are we?? Go on, we could go now, really? Walk???

unfortunately he will have to wait for a bit, so now he has collpased in a pathetic heap on my feet, sighing dramatically

Great thread Bitey

Last night I put Yokodog (now 14 months) in the garden as usual, he has his usual routine by shooting down under the shed and then do a couple of rounds just to check there are no intruders.

I called him to come in and no response, he had found a way into the neighbours garden the little sod! He's a lovely neighbour and used to stray footballs etc but not a dog I guess Smile

DH's task today is to plug the hole up! then check the other side as they have rabbits Shock poor little things seem to be permanently locked in a shed though
